I was at both these Wembley games so remember the scores. Wigan 30 Hull 13 in 1959 and Wakefield 38 Hull 5 in 1960. So a correction there.

In 1999 Leeds beat London Broncos 52-16 so this remains the record number of points scored by the winning team in a CC final and a points winning margin of 36 which makes your assertion about Hull's record earlier in post No 11 factually incorrect.
I think what he was referring to was Wembley Finals, as there had been a larger score in a non Wembley final. The Wigan one was the highest points score and also the highest winning margin for a Wembley RLFinal. The year after Hull were on the end of a battering which saw even bigger margins in each for new records. So at the time these were records. Leeds have indeed scored the most points but the fact they have done since doesn't alter the fact the Hull ones were records at the time. Of course the capital of rugby once again is the proud holder of the biggest margin record after last season's debacle.

The two local RL teams in Hull regularly lose to teams from places so small let's face it we couldn't point to them on a map.

I might have guessed at it if I knew they were near the Pyrenees. I don't think most people in the UK would know that, maybe 5 percent, your average Brit is pig-thick ignorant in my experience

Just as there's few Welsh that can't speak English, there's very few or none raised in Catalonia that can't speak Spanish.

In fact it's more likely you'll find people born there who can't speak Catalan because for nearly forty years the language was prohibited by the Franco dictatorship.

Try visiting some of the towns in the Spanish Pyrenees, Tremp, Ainsa and Bielsa were all particularly tricky, either they didn't know Spanish or they were being deliberately awkward and pretending not to know (which is a possibility!).

You only have to watch the odd quiz show on the telly like Pointless to realise how lacking in basic knowledge most people are, not knowing basic things like when the Second World war took place.

More than a possibility. Few in Wales will speak Wels but will switch to,it if some English person walks in.
My dad said during the war if there were two Welshnspeakers on a small ship they tended to separate them as it caused problems if they started conversing in Welsh. The saying was put two Enlglishmen together and they will start a club, put two Scotsmen together and they will start a fight and two Welshmen will start a conspiracy.

I'm fluent in Spanish but if I come across a Spanish accent I'm not familiar with it might as well be another language. So another possibility is that your listening comprehension is poor and they were speaking Spanish.

From a HKR viewpoint. Every single local sports reporter in the country does this. It's their job, they're not supposed to be impartial.

When has there been a higher points score or higher margin score in a non Wembley CC final over any CC final played at Wembley?

When has there been a higher points score or aggregate points score in a non Wembley final over any final played at Wembley?
We were talking up to the time of the finals involving Hull. They were records then. The fact they have been beaten since is not the point. Until Hull had 38 put past them the record for any final, Wembley or non Wembley had been 37 points. The 30 points was a record for Wembley finals. The following year both the score and winning margins were records for Wembley finals. Of course since then the highest score has been beaten but the biggest losing margin is back in Hull.

It was near enough. Four record defeats RL Cup Finals at Wembley and Hull clubs were on the receiving end in three of them. That was my point, and one which you will never hear referred to on local radio, another of my points.
Thanks for verifying it.

I verified the correct scores in the 2 Wembley finals I attended . I can also verify your apparent glee in posting negatives regarding the Wembley records of the 2 Hull Rugby League clubs. Perhaps I can balance this by stating a couple of positives regarding their history at Wembley.

One holds the record for the highest number of points ever scored by any team contesting a RL final at Wembley and the other featured in the highest crowd attendance ever to witness a RL final played there.

You verified the correct scores? Wow! Not that the original post was wrong, he just didn't mention Hull's score, only the opposition's in one of the games. This record you refer to, which unknown competition that not one in a million could name was that in? As for the record, that could be down to their opponents. After all it was more than was there for the Hull v Rovers final. A strange claim for glory, a bit like saying Eintracht Frankfurt featured in the highest crowd attendance for a European Cup Final.

......

I have no 'apparent glee' at pointing out a few facts that are never mentioned locally. As for the two records you mention, they mean nothing, although they are exactly the type of point scoring that we hear so often in the local media when bigging up the two local RL clubs. The City news on local BBC radio today was a good example. According to them we have no chance of reaching the Play Offs, yesterdays away draw was snatched from the jaws of defeat ( although the second Huddersfield goal came very late in the game too) and any neutral tuning in would have thought the local club they were reporting on were deep in a relegation dog fight by the tone of the reporting.
Contrasted against another tub thumping report on FC beating bottom of the league Huddersfield on Friday. That was given even more praise because Fc had a player injured before the game and so on. Praise upon praise heaped upon the coach who only three weeks ago the same station were reading out texts from fans wanting him sacked. I sometimes wonder if some people actual take glee in seeing City come unstuck.
