Lafferty never really got given the chance in the PL, so don't really know what his level is, either way I'm happy his getting some game time and scoring.
Yep. Dave would say Vardy and Austin scored a lot of goals "in every lower level" so therefore, not Premiership players. You can only score in the League you play in, and against the opposition you play against. If you are a goalscorer, you're a goalscorer.
Vardy holds the record for scoring in consecutive games in the PL, so it would be ridiculous to say he's not of PL standard!
....................that's the point I'm making!? You said Laftery had only scored at lesser levels? I said, coz he was only played at those levels. As was Vardy. Before Leicester bought him. By you reckoning, you never would have bought Vardy, coz he had only scored at lower levels. Ridiculous. By your reckoning, we never would have bought Dean Ashton. Austin would still be playing Non-League football.....
That's not what I'm saying at all! I was quite excited when we bought him but he failed to shine every time he was given the chance and 3 different managers have watched him train and don't rate him!
But yet when he starts, he scores. Strange. Lets not forget, 2 of those manager were totally useless, and this one wanted to stamp his own brand on the club. Lambert did that, he left out and sold players we thought were good Norwich players, Coz he wanted to brand the club, and get the rest to follow him. Probably a similar mindset.
Hornet in peace, just mooching about. Our Danny Graham could score across the leagues, generally prolifically, but has never cut it as a Premier League goalscorer. I've always thought he was one of those players, ability-wise, caught in the chasm between having the goods for the Prem and the Football League. If you look at general stats he appears to have done OK with the Swans to start, but look at who he scored against - predominantly bottom of table clubs.
It seems to me though that Lafferty just hasn't had the opportunity. I know he played in a few cup games but how many starts did he get this season in the PL?
I readily admit that of course I don't know Lafferty or Jerome as well as you lot - I havent watched either of them every week. But, from a position of acknowledged ignorance, Jerome scored 21 in 45 games in the Championship. Current and previous seasons in the Prem read: 3 in 31, 2 in 30, 4 in 30 and 8 in 37. Vardy is the exception, not the rule by which to judge others, surely?
And the team is set up to play to his strengths. He also has a very able foil in Mahrez. I may be wrong, but I'm not convinced he'd score as many at say ManUre or Citeh!!!
