I like what I see from England apart from Milner. Lallana is Lallana, he plays well until he is infront of goal. Sturridge was basically a ghost.
I really hope Sturridge doesn't go to France - Never rated him as an international player - wants too many touches and needs too many chances to score at this level. My strikers would be Kane, Vardy, Welbeck & Rooney/Defoe. Drinky done pretty well too, think he will def be in squad, not sure about starting though. Still think this tournament is too early for Stones to be starting, will definitely go though. For first game against Russia I'd like to see something like this in a 4-4-2 diamond: Hart Clyne Smalling Cahill Rose Dier Alli Milner/Henderson* Barkley Kane Vardy/Welbeck** *Really could do with a better option there ** Other as our 1st sub.
Hart Clyne Smalling Cahill Bertrand Dier Wilshere Alli Vardy Kane Welbeck 4-3-3 for me. That's what I'd play ^. Get welbeck and Vardy running into the channels like Shane Long. Sturridge and Rooney off the bench.
Quite like the look of that too but would have Rose over Bertrand and don't reckon Wilshere will make it so who would you have instead? And please god no Daniel ****ing Sturridge
I prefer Bertrand, he is better defensively. Although don't get me wrong, rose impressed me a lot against Germany. If wilshere doesn't make it, I think hendo. I actually think Dier is be first name on the team sheet. England have lacked a midfield presence for so long, it was great to see him marshalling against Germany.
Agree on the Dier front, can't remember when he last had someone that comfortable in that position, reminds me of a young Carrick in that sense. I don't think there's too much between Rose/Bertrand but Rose is young so part of the future more and don't think you can underestimate the benefit of having multiple players from same team. WAlker is the only Spurs player I wouldn't start, the other 4 all would. I'd quite like us to play 2 up top to be honest, but we may need the 3 in midfield for bigger teams.
Can't see us playing both Barkley and Alli in the same team. Will be Dier and either Hend/Milner (probably Hend) centre mid. (Lallana?) Alli Welbeck behind Kane. Cahill and Stones centre backs. Although I did think we tried to play too much through Stones last night. Like it was requested as a high priority. Also Forster seemed like he was forced to play it short every time he received a back pass on orders from Hodgson, some hairy moments.
Would you start Stones over Smalling? I don't think he's ready yet really, not had a brilliant season either.
Rob Elliot got a nasty injury whilst in goal for ROI yesterday. No mention in the article I read about Long, so hope his injury was minor.
