Think you´re missing the point slightly. This has got nothing to do with singing from the same hymn sheet, this thread is about allowing someone back, who has a history of being unable to control what he says / writes when he´s had too much to drink, and despite his remonstrations to the contrary, SN 23 can be very abusive when he´s in that state.

Just because this is a football forum, rather than say a book forum, or a gardening or knitting forum, it does not therefore give people the right to act like yobs or morons, there has to be a code of conduct and people cannot just say anything they like, even if they are on topic.

There´s absolutely no excuse for not keeping a civil tongue in ones head, even under the influence, and the fact that some don´t / can´t, is the number one reason for why so many good posters have left the forum over the years.

and............... not entirely, but slightly connected to this - it beggars belief, or mine anyway, just how many people on here seem incapable of writing the simplest, straightforwardest of sentences, to get their point across, without using two or three swear words in the process. Never have understood what effect they think they are going to gain by doing so, in fact it tends to give less effect to the point they´re trying to make, as far as I can see.

Must be getting old I suppose.

But then again, on his day Mat is one of the wittiest posters on this forum, when fueled up he can (and has) destroyed everyone in his path, he's a character, maybe not be to everyone's taste but it takes all sorts to make a forum and he can be easily placed on ignore...

Nevertheless, I still say keep him banned! <laugh>

Very true, welly, but surely that rather destroys the whole point of the forum.

Maybe...but then again in such an eclectic world as a football forum there's probably always going to be fellow supporters who 'grind your gears', who's sense of humour you might not 'get', just best to ignore them if it really means that much, we're all fans of the beautiful game at the end of the day.

I'm just here for the poetry

That's a long way of saying you don't like me .
Where should I start ?

A. I find your poems twee and very dull we can't all like everything and I even started dreading the same old tired rubbish after yet another loss.
I'm sure your work is very big on the Folk/morriss dancer scene but it"s not my cup of tea.

B. You can not blame me for the lack of traffic on this board I would even suggest that there were less posts and way more petty squabbles im my absence over the last few months.

C. You find swear words vulgar that's fine exercise your right to use the swear filter however if you are at Carrow road and Liverpool score the 5th goal in a crushing defeat after being 3-1 up saying
"Oh well that was unfortunate" doesn't quite do it justice for some people and the odd anglo Saxon word can sum up ones feelings perfectly.

D. I work hard and sometimes on my day off I enjoy drinking and watching my team play , I am not going to apologize for that ,I am not driving a car operating machinery I am conversing on the internet.
Maybe you are much older than me have health problems or alcohol is forbidden in your culture?.
It's not my business but I'm pretty sure if everyone posted like you then this site would be very boring .

I'll jut pop you on Ignore RBS. <ok>

Very true, welly, but surely that rather destroys the whole point of the forum.

Hi RBF, hope you're well.

I'm with you in that I don't get the need to swear at everyone, but don't see that feeling the need to 'ignore' someone destroys the point of the forum?

As Welly says (and I've had him on ignore from day one ), you can't like everyone, it's just how it is. It just doesn't bother me, maybe I'm very lucky that way.

Anyway mate, away from that, I was just reading that both old Fred Ball and Ron Spathaky died aged at a rather wonderful 98. Maybe it was something in the air, meaning, perhaps, we're still in our prime! <laugh><ok>

You should have used the word 'eclectic' mate, I did! Doubt that anyone except you and me knows what it means though! ;)<laugh>

Impressive stuff mate, I was awed by your grammatical dexterity. Had to look it up in the Idiots Guide to Adjectives, don't tell anyone! <laugh>

Thanks mate, it's nice to know that my University education at the UEA wasn't wasted.<ok><laugh>

...and all Mat can do is tell people to piss off.

We are truly blessed in our understanding of the human psyche. <ok>

Indeed we are mate, enlightened souls, and that's why I feel for Mat, such a troubled soul who strikes out when he unleashes the alcohol demons, such a shame...

I'm placing him on ignore.

Absolutely. I know he tried to kick the habit once, I think it was a Monday in 2013.

Until he vows to try harder, it's ignore for me too. Sad, but you know, I think it's what he'd want.

Yes, obviously it's not my place to do it, but as one of the more respected (dare I say senior?) posters on this forum you might like to think about starting an online petition to stop his alcohol fueled ramblings and abuse...

I'd certainly sign it, as you say, it's what he would want. <cheers>

I'm not fond of 'senior' I prefer 'age aware' and if concessions apply, yes please.

Super, please, before I do this thing. say reform is foremost in your head, and let me quash this petition.

Mate, God may love a repentant sinner but we're gonna need proof, this character Mat's got history...the very least that we need is his AA attendance records and (negative) weekly drug test results...<ok><laugh>

Okely dokely. <ok>

Aplogies for that moronic yobbish rant I had a second helping of sherry trifle and the monster was unleashed.
Mr Jeckyl or Mr Hyde ?

I just didn't know who I was anymore , at one low moment whilst watching the BBC news Mr Osbourne the respected Chancellor of the exchequer appeared before me explaining his new 2016/17 budget and I instinctively yelled**** off you **** .
The other shoppers in John Lewis's electrical department just stood staring at me in stunned silence their mouths agasp .
I ran from the store in tears knowing I shall never be accepted in society , why oh why can't I keep a civilized tongue in ones head ?

When I am really low I disguise myself as a builder wearing cargo pants muddy boots and a hi visibility yellow bib complete with a copy of the Sun ,and sit in a booth at Wetherspoons eating from the curry club menu amongst other social misfits pariahs and heathens ,rapturing in our shared carnal pleasure .

A meal and a pint of lager for £5.99 surely a contract drafted by Satan himself ?.

I sat their with excitement coursing through my veins a mixture of spicy food 4% continental lager images of Kim Kardashian and the faint swear words of the other diners gloriously filling the air.
At one point I think I may have seen Jesus leaving the mens bathroom rubbing his sodden hands on his orange boiler suit ,but it just turned out to be a tree surgeon with a hipster beard .

Off to church this morning to atone.

And so it begins!
Far from it.
A lucid, well constructed answer to a pretty unprovoked attack on him previously by your bosom pal RBF, as I too would have felt obliged to provide if the I was on the receiving end of similar.
If somebody implied that any member of this forum was "acting like yobs and morons", I'd fully expect a response, which this duly got, imho.
Good call on the 'twee' poetry too, SN23 <ok>

Not in the least surprised at your attack on RBF, I had no idea the pair of you were expert literary critics. The vast majority of our numbers value and appreciate RBF's prose!

If you call that lucid and well constructed I despair, I really do!
