I'm quite looking forward to the challenge of passing on rumours....posting an authenticated (i.e. newspaper) rumour about Spurs chasing player X for example, followed by a knowing wink smilie. We could develop our own code. Wink, wink. = Saints interested, any mods about.
On another note I though we were gonna have some fun this year starting a completely fake rumour and seeing if we can get the nationals to report it
Yep, we know what a published source is. That doesn't appear to be the issue - its the ITKers, and anyone else who might hear a tidbit along the way (as i myself have done, as have others including you) not being able to post as we cant link to a published source.
My suggestion is as it was a couple of pages back. That there wasn't really a problem in the first place, but perhaps we can rein in the puns and off topic a bit. If people are complaining endlessly about that though, it doesn't automatically make them in the right. That's fairly critical. For every 5 people that moan, there's 150 that aren't fussed, or enjoy the broadening of a discussion.
It's not trouble, no, and it's what people have generally always done when the rumour has come from a published source. But it kills being able to pass on other information, which to be honest is what makes the forum and that thread most interesting. I honestly think you're stumbling your way into a problem that for 99% of the forum just doesn't exist.
I think I have complained once....forgotten what it was, but must have been serious. Annoyances I ignore....I may not like stuff, but I don't assume I am the arbiter of what is right or wrong. Music 'yawn', endless arguments 'yawn', GOT 'yawn', American football 'yawn'....but that is just me. Easy to scroll down and move on.
It's seems to me to be a really simple solution and has been said by many, just post rumours (from whatever source, article, word of mouth etc.) but KEEP TO TOPIC. I really don't see why this is so hard. No new rules required. As for the amount of pages in the thread why does this matter after all it is a discussion forum and more pages means it's working. You don't have to read them skimming is allowed.......I think
Exactly. It, to me, feels really rather simple. I've posted a poll to that effect anyhow, so we'll see what the majority thinks.
Sorry to get pedantic about this, especially as I am happy to tolerate the non-referenced rumour, but define "article". Should the article be based on a primary source, for example. Many of the articles in comics like The Sun are re-hashes of rumours that someone told someone they'd heard in the pub (and these are the better ones). We could get all sniffy about it, and say that only articles from a peer-reviewed journal should be included. That'll cut down on stuff. Frankly the "my brother was talking to a bloke who takes his dog to the same obedience class as Lionel Messi's sister and he said .." story passes me by. I am sure it does others too. Surely the rule is that if it looks like a dodgy rumour the reader moves on. Meanwhile, the mods can keep doing what they do well and pick up on the nasty stuff or nudge us when we drift into banned territory. I guess the mods suffer the same as, say, the police. Coppers have a distorted view of life as they spend 99% of their time dealing with 0.5% of the population who are bleedin' 'orrible. Mods get complaints and feel they need to respond, but sometimes the answer is that we all need to take responsibility and post sensibly. This has to include an occasional intervention on the funnies. In a classroom a teacher may let a joke run but usually says "OK enough, back to the subject in hand". Wouldn't be hard for a mod to do this, and I'm sure we'd cooperate. If we didn't then it would be the naughty step for transgressors.
Not really. It's pretty easy to keep up. You could even just use the Echo, they do a similar thing. Any you miss, we could responed to a mods message to get their attention.
Don't remember that? I remember one of the NE teams doing it a few years back. Me and TSS were discussing the idea a few weeks back.
Before I actually knew some one who knows a few things. I made up a rumour about us buying Shaqiri from Basel. It spread to Saints Web and twitter, plus a few random sports sites.
