Its a shame Rafa is a Newcastle as I want him to do well. However I think Newcastle are such a mess that that might be improbable, also I'd be fairly happy to see Newcastle relegated (not because of the fans) because they're owners and suits are such bastards I'd like to see them suffer. I also have a problem with unambitious clubs, the idea of just being happy staying in the league, 17th and above is acceptable. Its the same issue I have with Villa and am glad that they are due to go down this season.
As a club you should be trying to do as well as you can, in the league and cups otherwise whats the point of professional competitive sport?

He'll keep Newcastle up if anyone can.

Thats why its a double edged shame. Rafa getting relegated or Newcastle staying up, its bad either way.

Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland should all drop because they keep just dodging it despite the fact they could do alot better, its the lack of ambition to do more than just survive for well established teams.

Can't see Rafa settling for 17th

Former Magpies defender Steve Howey told BBC Radio 5 live: "Benitez could be a fans' favourite straight away. He's got a fantastic track record.

"Sunderland seem to have done it in the last couple of seasons, changing their manager and getting a positive result.

"It's a big contrast for him. It's not that long since he was manager of Real Madrid and if things don't go well he could be playing on a horrible, windy, wet midweek game down at MK Dons."

I know Newcastle's squad isn't the best, but they must be getting desperate if Rafa could be a player/manager!

But would the owners. Pretty sure Mcclaren and Pardew wanted more than 17th as well.

Rafa won't have joined with that mentality so either the owners are being a little more ambitious or they've pulled the wool over his eyes

Phew.

Glad he has gone Newcastle as rumours were rife he was Goodison bound.

Now just have to swerve Rodgers and it will be sweet
