I mentioned that its not the fans I have a problem with and not really your club per say. Its the owner and the board, they deserve to suffer the relegation.
Frankly I think the Newcastle fans have a right to be pissed off with Ashley and his cronies who have milked the club and settle for just being in the Prem.
Over the years I really think Newcastle should have had a go at winning one of the cups, if they weren't going to push on in the league and fight relegation every season.

I've been going for forty odd years and seen us win nowt. We're used to getting **** on. <ok>

Surprisingly enough, after 8 years of crap, Ashley seems to be making a go of it, albeit ill informed. What was Rafas record in transfers like?

    http://liverpoolfc.wikia.com/wiki/Rafael_Benitez/Transfers

During Rafael Benitez' six-year tenure as manager of Liverpool, he oversaw the purchase of 59 players and the depature of 72. Approximately £230,000,000 was spent on players under the leadership of Benitez at an average of approximately £3,900,000 per player, whilst approximately £162,000,000 was recouped from players sales. This equates to a net spend of approximately £68,000,000 on transfers, at an average of £11,300,000 per year.

    Hit and miss like most
some pure gems like Alonso,Torres , Mascherano Arbeloa but also quite a lot of junk normally for lesser money (though due to the numbers it added up) until near the end when some very poor signings were made such as Aquilani.

    Depends.

He bought Torres, Alonso, Garcia, Reina and Masca.

But also bought Voronin, Reira, Dossena and Keane. And not to mention the whole cock up with Barry and Alonso which cost us the later.

Part of the reason for his downfall was an on going battle with difficult owners who were cutting back on cost and taking the cheap options in transfers (and cheap options in all aspects of the club).
If Rafa gets his way, then the buying is fairly good but if the owners get involved and start taking the cheap buy then theres a problem.

  6. When he was given money to spend we got players like Alonso, Garcia, Reina, Mascherano, Kuyt and Torres.

When he was told to sell-to-buy we got Voronin, Aquilani, Keane, Glen Johnson, Jovanovic, etc

Even with money he had a few poor signings such as Kramkamp but no more than other managers.

Edit: he will fight his corner with the board / owners if he's not happy.

Good to see the responses were all along similar lines.

  10. He may not have a transfer window with you yet.

If the players adapt to his ways quickly you'll survive and he'll improve you in the summer.

If the players need time then it could still go badly.

One thing I especially like about Newcastle is that Everton fans seem to despise Newcastle (i've never figured out why).

Anyone that Everton dislikes can't be all bad.

  14. Valencia too to an extent. Their fans expect them to be on par with Barca and Real

I think newkie will love him then quickly grow tired of him.

    Why. The straight jacket football.

On transfers.... rafa brought in some good uns but these days I think he's been a long way from the grass roots in Spain. We will see.

I think in the end he tried to maintain a first 11 in a squad game and paid for it here.

The inter players were shameful and look what happened to them.

    He improved Napoli a lot.

    Real was again players.

So really do you think the newkie players will take to the straight jacket?
