Dave - thanks for the film clip. It is much appreciated. I think that was a good point and a match where we probably showed some "character". I personally believe that "good" teams need to be "solid" at the back (otherwise everybody covers or does not go forward) and again we kept a clean sheet for the 1st half. I am quite positive and hope that we start to build a team and style for next season, when hopefully we can turn these draws into wins.
I disagree. Wednesday have been on a good run, especially at home. We are still building a team and a playing style. To go up North for a cold midweek game against a very good side and get a draw would be an achievement even if we were challenging for promotion. We've got to learn to play tight and get these sort of points, it's part of our learning curve and could bode well for next season when we could be in the mix. Whilst we may have rode our luck with the penalties, I take this result as a possible sign of our development.
Attack once, score, easy......cracking strike from Toszer..... Poor defending for their goal, 3 standing waiting for the ball to drop allowing their guy a free run and jump, Smithies should be livid with the defenders...... As has been said elsewhere that's a decent point, certainly more than i was expecting and we are now becoming a difficult side to beat unless you're Fulham of course!!!!!! Steady progress.....
Dreaming .... Again they were very unfortunate not to win . And what's "up north and cold " got to do with !? They get paid a fecking nuff no ?
We got two great away results so with a new side it's good Can't forgive the Fulham match so will hope for a win against Birmingham if we get that and build no reason we can't finish strong As this league bar Hull and Burnley will eat itself
What was unfortunate about it? We got a point at a promotion contender. If we were top of the league that would have been a very solid result.
I find it quite bemusing that the performances are arguably worse under JFH since he has taken over. He has had about the same amount of time as Ramsey had in this league, but isn't getting half the flack Ramsey got. He was brought in to get us promoted and if he doesn't win on Saturday he will have a worse record than Ramsey who's remit was consolidation. JFH's original remit wasn't.
They had numerous chances saved on another day would have lost 3-1 . And a missed penalty ! I would say we scraped a point just ? Wouldn't you ?
Lets face it Jimbo we're not exactly renowned for our solid performances North of Watford on a Tuesday night. They are top 6 for a reason and being the home side they would be expected to dominate. No doubt their fans believe we are exactly the sort of team they should be beating, the same way we think we have a devine right to beat sides, no? Last night was a decent point, you make your own luck in this division, they didn't take their chances, we took the one chance we had.........
Happiness is what you feel when your teams results exceed your expectations. Look at Man U fans and their unhappiness because their expectations aren't being met. Expect less from our ramshackle, poorly-run club and you'll enjoy it more. We've got no right to be brilliant, and if it was easy, every team would play like Barcelona. It isn't and they don't. This year, a draw, even if it meant we were riding our luck, is a good result in Sheffield on a Tuesday night. Success this year, for me, would be for the team to put in a shift every game and avoid relegation, keep the same manager for next season and look forward to the team playing the game the way he wants it played. Oh, and hoops that go all the way round, please.
A good point under normal circumstances but we're mid table with nothing to lose so why the lack of adventure and, more importantly, entertainment? We had just 38% of possession and two shots on target which sounds very much like the typical kind of performance we have been suffering since JFH took charge. Surely he can coach them to pass the ball?
Maybe AAAGH but Wednesday have a very good home record, prior to last night out of 16 home league games they had won 10, drawn 5 and just 1 defeat, apparently that was back in August, so I'm not sure what you were really expecting our under achievers to do, personally I thought we'd lose and probably quite heavily. Instead we seemed to have got a hard earned point that increases the gap over the bottom 3 and more than likely ensures we are in this division next season, unless there is a complete meltdown over the next 13 games.......Sure we may not be pleasing on the eye at the moment but we are proving to be difficult to beat, last 8 games won 2, lost 1, drawn 5, goals for 9, against 6 and 3 of those were against Fulham...... maybe once the 50 point safety mark has been reached then the shackles might be loosened........
I like to think of this as a pre-pre-season for next year. I'd rather we approached these games as you'd expect us to were they important than have a laissez-faire attitude as if it's a genuinely meaningless fixture. The positions of the teams suggests if we left ourselves open we'd have been battered far more likely than not.
Do you get to many games Nines? If you do, do you see any improvements in how we play from Ramsey''s time? I have only seen the televised games and we have been bad all season in them! From the results and what I have seen we looked like we had more goals in us under Ramsey, but are harder to score against under JFH - but is there any improvement overall?
I had forgotten this game was happening until I saw the result on telly last night. At least we didn't lose.
