do you not want us to do well in the league then?

name me a club that has played europe this season that hasn't failed in their domestic league.

valencia - struggling
sevilla and valencia - struggling
birmingham/hull/wigan - relegated
marseille and lyon - struggling
monaco were struggling, since they exited in group stage, funnily enough, they put a string of results together in league
lazio and fiorentina - struggling
augsburg & schalke - struggling

its a fact that the EL completely destroys you, unless you have fitness capabilites the level of spurs.

only other club that are coping well are dortmund, but they have the quality in depth and don't suffer injuries and bar vertonghen lately, spurs too never suffered any injuries

So when we get back in the CL (or if) we'll be pot 3 or even 4... and go straight out again. No thanks. We need to be in Europe - any sort of Europe - for our profile and more importantly our coefficient points.

Europa League is a very decent competition to win... good games by the quarters and the winner gets CL and the Super Cup.

Anyway, team something like

----------------------Mignolet
Clyne-------Toure---------Sakho------Moreno
-------------Lucas-------Henderson
----------------------Can
--------Coutinho-----Firmino----Milner

Dare we risk Sturridge?

If you want to be succesful in Europe you have to learn how to play both league and european football. Plus we need the coefficient or like Man City when they first qualified for CL and were stuck in pot 4 you are screwed.
the only problem with the Europa is the qualifying rounds and the group stages once thru to the knockout you are in with some big hitting clubs,
oh yes one other thing i quite watching my club play and hopefully win so that is another reason to hope we are in europe next season

Yeah we should risk Sturridge, we need to win the first leg. Let him get another hour and then a sub next week, to rest him for the final.

Just seen highlights of Ausburg v Bayern and they seemed to be playing a really high line. Do that against us and could be space for likes of Sturridge and Origi to exploit.

Could have been in reach if we got a quality striker in the Jan window. I can't see it being feasible now unless somehow Sturridge can stay fit for several games in a row.

We have Studge, Benteke, Origi, Inga and Balotelli on the books already plus Firmino who can play up top too.

Which the kids / reserves can play and win <ok>

what good is 5th? i'd rather no europa next season thanks...

Silly attitude I don't get "fans" like you, we watch our team and hope we can win trophies. No European football for Liverpool is a terrible thing I want to be in it and I want us to win it.

We could get all snobby and start looking down our nose at certain competitions, your attitude is similar to saying I don't want to win the League Cup as it's a Mickey Mouse competition.

Take me out back and shoot me if I start thinking like that.

Fortunately not everyone thinks that way. Players owe it to themselves- never mind the fans- to do the best they can in every competition they're in.
I don't want to see a team that gives up when things get tough, thanks very much. <ok>

Some modern day fans follow the nonsense fed by the media whereas it's a lot more simple when they stop and think about it. At the start of the season there are a certain amount of trophies and as a fan I want to win them all. I don't care about fixtures, squad size or financial aspects, you put on that shirt you give your all and try to win each game.

It's also an attitude I'd expect a Man Utd fan to have...

So you want us to be a Man City or Chelsea then

A club like liverpool should be looking to play in Europe every season.

I take it you won't be celebrating if we somehow win the EL? Just like you won't be celebrating should we beat Man City in the League Cup final?
don't be ridiculous, now we're in the competition, we have to be in it to win it but i'm just saying for next season i'd rather we di'dnt qualify for europa.. fans are 50/50 whether they want us in or out next season

Nah...if (and I don't like doing this) we were going to rank trophies to take part in and win...a little arrogant considering the level we are currently at.

Pl
CL
EL
FA
LC

Now unless Klopp performs miracles we will not have raised to a standard that winning the league next year will be probable. Obviously we start the season with it as a target but we will find out very quickly if we are "in the race"

Unless we win the EL this year we will not be in the CL.

So realistically we will be going for top 4, EL, FA again next year with an improved squad.

I can not see why, barring injuries and using the whole squad why we can not compete on all fronts. Are we likely to be successful in all 3? Maybe not but to suggest a club that has spent hundreds of millions on a squad can not is lunacy.

Spurs are currently going for League, EL and FA cup...so far so good there...

Really? Not amongst the ones I know.
Why even follow a team if it's not to want to watch them play?

There are three types of people in this world, those that can count and those that can't <whistle>

73% of stats are made up <ok>

I'd agree with that list order. However, to follow your lead of doing things we dislike, the Top four trophy needs to be included in there between EL and FA Cup imo

Yeah...debated to myself whether it was a separate target to winning the league and in reality it now is.

I'd put the LC above FA these days.

The FA Cup has been ruined by London bankers.

The 2-leg semis of the LC are far more professional and fan-focused than the Wembley mortgage fundraisers for the FA Cup

Plus the League Cup is earlier in the season so doesn't effect the fixture congestion later in the season.
