Needed to come and get warmed up by the fire as it has been wet and cold here most of the day. Decided to indulge in some traditional fish and chips from the van that appears twice a month.

Since this picture was taken they have invested in a lovely replica Citroen van, so trade is good and appeals to the natives as much as the ex-pats.

I was spoiled living in Lincoln, The Smith family run a few fish and chip shops, their batter is a family secret recipe and their portions are unbelievable, a friend once described my fish supper as " a blue whale and ten tonne of chips! :)

We find that we have become used to smaller French sized portions, although often more courses. When we do have fish et frites we have two pieces of fish and share one portion of chips. I do not enjoy plates heaped with too much food as it is unattractive to look at and overfills me.

Don't go to our local "Hungry Horse" pub / restaurant. Their fish and chip meal is titled "Great Cod Almighty!"

We have a Fish & Chip van that turns up in our village on a Thursday night - well did turn up. Last owners were brilliant, with lovely large fresh fish and huge portions on chips, but since the new-year they have not turned up - just stopped coming! Played havoc with my menu planning for a couple of weeks, as I had to drive to the local chippy (where the quality is poor) to feed the brood!

My fish and chip van always take January off for their holiday, so today was the first trip up our way.

Same here. I often cook for one and the old "eyes bigger than the belly" scenario happens too often especially as I am not a big eater!

Love your picture by the way.

Morning all from mild day with sunshine mixed with showers.
I have come across a story that reminds me of my days when I worked for a nationalized company. We had someone who was employed, but didn't actually have a job. Every month he received materials that he had to use in case stopping them would draw attention to the situation. He had quite a nice little business going selling his produce on the local market. He was still there when I moved on.

Morning all from a grey and chilly bandit country - local authorities here are full of such waste OFH. My local authority decided that they should close the 2 local admin buildings in 2 towns about 15 miles apart and build a brand new "gin palace" about half way between them. So they spent millions on this place (although partly funded by selling the old building for housing - although it has taken years as they did not grant planning on 1 for 6 years!), but it means all of the employees now have to drive there, plus whenever I drive past at night, very single damned light is on in that building - such a waste and what's the environmental impact? Wife of my mate works there - she is the "quit smoking" co-ordinator!

Quit smoking co-ordinator? She should be fired! ;)

I imagine they are those movement sensor ones.... In my last job they used to go off mid-lecture... over the student areas... I guess they were sleeping? Mind you I couldnt see.... I was too busy performing at the front.
