Gary Neville insisted that he had no intention of resigning as Valencia manager after his side was hammered 7-0 at the Camp Nou by Barcelona on Wednesday night – but the club’s sporting director Suso García Pitarch described it as “one of the worst results in our history” and evaded questions about the Englishman’s future at the Mestalla. --------- Oh well, he talks a good game.
Surprised he didn't resign straight after the match, surely 7-0 in a cup semi totally unacceptable for a club of Valencias stature, you could understand them maybe getting a 4-0 bashing
Being a good pundit does not make you a good manager . Same as great players are not guaranteed to be good a good manager too. Also can be said of assistants becoming the boss . His CV has just taken a battering .
If Neville gets sacked and he doesn't take over from Woy he'll have to slink back to Sky but it'll be very awkward for him won't it telling the viewers what's what.
Im pretty sure in his defence the language barrier , culture difference , and new league to understand played a part in him getting sacked , but its happened now and garys time at Valencia is over , feel for him but he will be back on MNF pretty soon
Should never have taken the job.. I always thought Neville was a bit old school and had old values like learning your trade at a lower level and working your way up, not taking a big job like Valencia for his first job in management.. He should have gone to a championship club or perhaps lower, learnt his trade and eventually, either through promotions or better job offers been a big club manager.
Technically and tactically he is one of the best in the world even though he has never managed , id stand and argue he is up there with Pep and Jose.... What he is been judged on right now his is man management and leadership skills ...sadly they are not looking up to scrach
Very little of what's happening at Valencia is Neville's fault. They were in such a huge mess before he went there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at back at Sky next season.
Barcelona were playing their youth squad! Only 3000 went to the game in a 55,000 seat stadium. I think Gary Neville is been harsh on the club, the chairman and the fans. He's not up to the job! There next game is against a tough Espanyol team, lose that and they could get relegated, Neville needs to put his ego to one side on this one and admit that he's not upto managerial standard. The Valencia team has some good players and have a great youth set upneds sorting and fast!
Espanyol lost 5-0 at home on Monday night. They don't sound like tough opposition. If Valencia can't beat them Neville surely will go.
