Footballer Adam Johnson pleads guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child, denies two other charges Beast http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35541528
Scum, dont care who he plays for, even if he played for the toon, no excuses, the guy is scum and deserves a prison sentance
It doesn't do any harm its a Sunderland player though? I mean their high and mighty stance is somewhat tarnished. I think he'll be looking at a sacking and I can't see anybody wanting associated with that. Prison tends to be cruel on these types...
The fact his changed his plea from not guilty to guilty is massive, Prosecution will be all over that!
He's officially a *****phile. The 'he didn't know her true age' doesn't hold water. He knew she was 15. Should be sacked on the spot. That would apply irrespective of who he played for. I actually feel sorry for the Mackems that defended him whilst you cannot blame them. Innocent until proven guilty. But, he's admitted it. His career has to be over surely?
You can't blame the mackems for standing by him. Innocent until proven (or eventually confessed) guilty!
I can blame them, and have done on their board, they are a very touchy bunch I must say! all of them backed him when it first happened, all of them litterally said it will go away, he isnt guilty, and I dont want to take anything away from the offence, as its scum, but it is funny that it happened to the mackems. He has left a stain on their football club
Disagree, he has left a stain on his own reputation. As for Sunderland as a club, they haven't done anything wrong and I expect most people will be able to see that Sunderland FC aren't culpable for Johnson's actions. I would assume with this plea, even if he somehow doesn't end up going to jail, that Sunderland will now be firing him, if not they can then be tainted with their inaction.
I disagree with this. Would you not just disassociate yourself from such a person when rumours of this nature arise? Instead, they did the very opposite and celebrated him, especially in the Derby wins. The previous comments about them being touchy are correct. Can't count how many times I read things like 'it will go away'...'there's nothing in it'. I even read that the victim was a slag!? Deserve all the bad publicity they get now.
I agree but it didn't work like that with the likes of Barton etc for us. Whether anyone agrees with it or not, whether its right or wrong, it does leave a stain on the football club in question when things like this happen. The tribalism in football makes sure of it. As Dre would say "and that's just being real wit'chu"
You can't start accusing their fans for saying innocent until proven guilty Sam. Its not like when they were supporting him they were singing "he's our ***** and we don't care". Its not a cock measuring contest with the mackems, there's a young lass in the midst of all this remember. As I say it makes me laugh that some of them are up in arms saying "you shouldn't be using this against the fans or the club", searching for some moral high ground as usual, it shouldn't but it sure didn't stop them when it wasn't their club! I hope he gets the book chucked at him and spends some time with Bubba bashing ****e out of his arse the dorty beggar . The lesson for some of the mackems is not to always look for the moral high ground, they are the same with regard to crowd violence. Unfortunately these footballers and certain fans exist in most clubs and can let any club down.
He has pleaded guilty and some fans on their board are still trying to see a way out of it. They are using our european neighbours as excuses, like if this was in france he would get a slap on the wrist. They are looking for the legal meaning of what he has admitted to and trying to argue whether he knew that she was underage, even though he clearly admitted he knew. A couple of their fans have said they want to see how the trial goes! His bloody admitted it ffs! Im of the opinion that if a high profile Rock star/movie star or sports person is accused of murder/rape and a case is legally taken up, they should be suspended with out pay. being in such a role is a privilegde and it shouldnt take 6 months to go to court. A lot of women who suffer such horrible crimes rarely get the justice they deserve. Lets hope on this occassion that she does.
I'd be a big fan of all these things not getting played out in public but its just not realistic. I don't think you can just start suspending people because of their status/job. It makes you look guilty for a start, so you are immediately prejudicing the trial.
The reason why so many Sunderland fans defended him at the time was due to his not guilty plea. He's changed tact now. Obviously his defence team, now that full disclosure has been made, have pretty much told him he's going down and to change his plea to mitigate the eventual sentence. The grooming charge is the most serious charge. It indicates premeditation and hints at a predatory pursuit. The fact he has admitted that charge will mean that the book will be thrown at him for that charge alone. If he's denied the other charges, then that will be put to the jury and quite frankly, the fact that he has admitted the other charges will not go down well with jurors. He surely must be sacked now. The man is a *****phile.
Sorry but I have to disagree with you particularly regarding people being suspended without pay. Firstly the legal position is innocent until proven guilty ( or pleads guilty). Secondly, I agree now that he has pleaded guilty to two offences then that changes things. In any event the Club should wait until all matters are finished before deciding what to do. It's likely only going to be two or three days and in real terms nothing is lost waiting for the full picture to be available before deciding what to do including seeing what sentence is imposed by the Court. Thirdly, how do you decide who is and who isn't "high profile" and why, in any event, should they be treated any differently to everyone else. Anyone could be liable to false accusations and have their lives destroyed following your logic. I agree that there does not appear to be a large intance of false accusations but that would be no comfort to the high profiled person whose life could be destroyed before appearing before a Court of Law. Finally I agree it shouldn't take 6 months to get to Court but it can and it does and even longer as well and that's the world we live in. Also I wouldn't criticise the Sunderland fans for sticking up for him prior to his admissions as they like you and me don't yet have the full facts. Obviously, from now on given his admissions I wouldn't expect any Sunderland fans to support him.
Like with all nonces I hope they throw the book at him. As a father I have very strong views on what should happen to anyone who has sexual activity with a child. He will be sacked with immediate effect by SAFC, and rightly so. The Mackems defended him as he was innocent until proven guilty and many of our fans would have done the same.
Sunderland should have suspended him until either the investigation ended or as has happened there has been an admission of guilt, from this point as such a high profile person who is as are all footballers a role model for lots of youngsters he should be sacked and sent to prison. Sunderland chose to continue to play him despite the allegations and in my mind are culpable in this matter and deserve the negative attention they get for this as they have actively supported a child sex offender.
He'll fall under 'Gross [sic] Misconduct' for this one. Entitles an employer to terminate an employment contract immediately. In terms of the whole innocent until proven guilty principle - If Sunderland knew that he was going to plead guilty [they would have been in contact with his legal representatives no doubt] then they had grounds for terminating his contract prior to trial. Legally, they would have been well within their rights to do so. I agree though, I think that they have been waiting for the outcome of the trial. You do have to wonder though why if they knew, they would let a *****phile around young children [mascots etc] regardless of the real risk. It's a tough one. Johnson should be sacked. There is no way back. This isn't an assault. It's a sexual offence against a child.
Happy to take our money for your bereaved but also jumping on our club the first chance you get? That's class right there I can only thank the decent Newcastle supporters on here, who acknowledge that we were sitting back until the facts have been revealed. That's how this country works isn't it? As for talking about making excuses about our European neighbours... That was an Everton fan. Every single Sunderland supporter that I have heard, wants AJ kicked out of the club and tortured in jail. NOW THE FACTS HAVE BEEN REVEALED
