Hi all, I have written a new article on Fraser Forster. Hope you enjoy! https://www.the-newshub.com/football/fraser-fortress
Nice. I would have liked to have seen a shot-to-save ratio, but I appreciate that certain statistics are hard to come by, especially the further back into the past one goes.
Was interested to see how well Davis compared to the others (though mainly outside the EPL)....I seem to remember he stopped a few penalties as well.
Wow...what did you say? Everyone's welcome on here...even opposition fans....as long as not aggressive.
Are those Flowers statistics really correct? He was a top keeper, but 0.6 goals against per game doesn't square with my memory of early-90s Saints.
This article from the Echo has rather different figures: http://m.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/14257793.Forster_twice_as_good_as_Shilton/?ref=mac Paul Jones: 192 league apps, 327 goals conceded, 54 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 3.55 Mins per goal conceded 52.75 Tim Flowers: 192 league apps, 325 goals conceded, 37 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 5.1 Mins per goal conceded 53 Peter Shilton: 188 league apps, 227 goals conceded, 62 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 3.03 Mins per goal conceded 74.5 Dave Beasant: 88 league apps, 125 goals conceded, 20 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 4.4 Mins per goals conceded 63.3 Antti Niemi: 81 league apps, 108 goals conceded, 23 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 3.5 Mins per goal conceded 66.7 mins Artur Boruc: 49 league apps, 56 goals conceded, 19 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 2.6 Mins per goals conceded 77.9 Fraser Forster: 34 league apps, 21 goals conceded, 18 clean sheets Games per clean sheet 1.8 Mins per goal conceded 142 Kelvin Davis: 20 league apps, 36 goals conceded, four clean sheets Games per clean sheet 5 Mins per goal conceded 48.75 Maarten Stekelenburg: 17 league apps, 19 goals conceded, six clean sheets Games per clean sheet 2.8 Mins per goal conceded 80.5
Without commas, I read that differently.....thought Fraser conceded a goal every 1.8 mins. Didn't take me long to catch on....honest
We conceded 69 goals in the 90/91 season alone so I wouldn't trust that site's pre-Premier League statistics!
http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/arti...-sheet-fraser-forster-paul-jones-2946488.aspx Article from OS reminding us of Paul Jones record of 6 consecutive clean sheets.
Hi all. So I have cracked it. The numbers for Tim Flowers were way off due to the fact that their calculations for the pre-Premier League era were all wrong. My totals for all keepers are different to the Daily Echo because I am looking at total Saints performances and they are looking at League only. I disagree with them slightly on Tim Flowers I have 299 goals conceded in 243 total games whereas they have 327 goals conceded in 192 games. I think The Echo are overestimating for his first three seasons (86 to 89) where he only made a total of 25 appearances. Really appreciate the feedback. I have updated the article and the graph accordingly. Key thing is shows is that, although early days, Forster's stats are incredible! https://www.the-newshub.com/football/fraser-fortress

That's more like it. My memories of Eric Martin was that he was a pretty sound keeper and Saints were generally better when he was in goal. Served a long time too, but missed out on the FA Cup success by one season. Didn't quite realise he was that good, but then again, he played in an era of fewer goals scored [which resulted in the 3 points for a win, from the old 2, change]
