Our manager seemed to suggest Deeney was tired but we had a couple of attacking options on the bench that could've started with Ighalo.

Trouble was our "wide players" didn't stop your full backs and there was only so much Nyom/Ake could do.

I agree. Thought you were brilliant and, had I not been on the wrong end of of it, would have loved it. I saw someone say we were the worst team at WHL this season. I cannot comment on that but would just say it was not our worst performance by a very long chalk and maybe they should look at how good their own team were.

Incorrect. That award goes to Chelsea and their team of car park attendants.

Talking of wide players, was it just me or did you play Capoue in quite a wide position? I thought it was a bit strange given that he's a CM with little pace (although he apparently holds a bachelors from the Dele Alli School of Nutmegging Excellence <laugh>)

Well we have played Behrami in a wide role before and he is even slower and even less likely to score!

TBF Capoue has played very well for us when allowed to pushing forwards.

We don't play with natural wingers...

Well done the boys !!!
From what I have read, Gomes had an utter <standard> yet we
still prevailed with a moment of excellence.

As ever, I am going to cut to the important issues. What do we think of Motson's pronunciation of 2 of our players names. They both grate with me, but he could be correct.

We have Dell-A Alli
And Kieran Tripp - E - Ay (as if in French)

Are these correct?

I'm not sure but I reckon it's more like Del-li and Trip-ee-er.

Dell-ee - It's how Poch and the team say it

Tripp-ee-er - It's only ever been said this way in all interviews, ever

Motty is dotty

Maybe his name should also be pronounced à la francaise?
mow-sorng (that's the nearest I can get to a phonetic spelling - sorry!)
After all, it's two French words strung together, ironically meaning "word-sound"! <doh>

Just watching the game "live" on Hong Kong TV (loving the Guandongwah phonetics
of the player names - Har Le Ka Le - Da Bei Lei :D) .

God didn't Watford park the bus. And was Gomes wearing a gum shield ??

Spurs will definitely need more MF capable of threading the ball thru the ranks -
because I reckon so many lesser teams are going to set their stall out now exactly
as Watford and Leicester recently have.

Talking of Gomes reminds me to mention how surprised I was at the subdued "welcome back" he received. Even the tannoy announcer at the start ballsed it up. He would usually say, "in goal, number 1 and welcome back to WHL, Heurelho Gomes".

What he said was, "in goal, number 1 Heurelho Gomes". And then realising he hadn't welcomed him back, said "oh and a welcome back to him". The reception he got from the Park Lane was certainly not in line with the reception they normally give returning players, although in fairness, the Paxton did give him a good round of applause at the start of the second half.

I remember reading an interview with him where he was very unflattering about his time at the club so maybe that played a role in it.
Personally I found him a strange keeper...could make awful mistakes but on his day he could be world class.
I was at the Spurs Arsenal match in April 2010, where Danny Rose scored in our 2-1 win. We were 2 up when RVP came on with about 25 mins to play.
RVP took a brilliant free kick which, somehow, Gomes saved. That was followed by RVP catching the ball on his chest and turning and volleying a shot to the top corner which, again Gomes somehow saved. But his best save was from a point blank range header by Judas which he turned onto the cross bar. I think it was the best goalkeeping performance I have seen live since I first went to a match in the late 70s.
All in all I remember him fondly and am pleased he is doing so well at Watford

If you want to remember that game (and your recall is excellent)

Thats a great keeping performance, if I recall correctly he was outstanding for PSV in the europa league match with one particular save from Steed Malbranque living long in the memory, I still think that save is as good as any I have ever seen
