    Not for us.

Aston Villa have re-opened talks with Wigan regarding Charles N'Zogbia and have agreed a £9.5million fee.

Having seen a £9million bid knocked back earlier in the summer, Villa are prepared to raise the stakes and have put an improved package to the Latics.

Villa boss Alex McLeish is known to be a long-standing admirer of N'Zogbia, having come close to signing him for Birmingham last summer.

The Scot could finally be about to get his man, as he has considerable funds to play with in pre-season.

With Villa having offloaded Ashley Young to Manchester United and Stewart Downing to Liverpool, money is available.

    Creative void
Filling the creative void created by the loss of two wide-men is a priority and that is why McLeish has returned for N'Zogbia.

Wigan have previously hinted that it would take at least £10million to prise the 25-year-old from their grasp, but they are wary of losing him for nothing at the end of his contract next year.

With Villa having reached an agreement for the former Newcastle playmaker, they will look to thrash out personal terms in the next 24 hours.

N'Zogbia will then undergo a medical before penning a long-term contract at Villa Park

All i can add is, thank **** it's over. Nearly.

We'll see if we had any hand to play at all now. If Bruce has ever been serious about signing him he'd be a fool to let him sign for villa, at that price its a snip. Wonder if we try and hijack it.

I'm sort of glad it could finally all be over one way or the other. BUT this is the type of player I was expecting us to sign in that he has proven quality and IMO quality which we need as I think we are still one or two players short of being a team that can improve on last season. So all in all I would be gutted if he went to Villa.

I agree he is a snip at that price but if his wage demands are true then i am pleased the club backed away.
If its the fee we have backed out of i am very dissappointed

This is obviously hypothetical but I think if Nzogbia signs for Villa instead of us they'll finish above us. Is it 750k extra each place higher in the league we finish. Do the math, hes worth double what he's going for in the current market. You cover his wages on what you save on the transfer fee and his resale value woud equal a huge profit imo. Very dissapointed. If we want to push the top 6 we did to bring in players like nzogbia

Never thought he was coming here, if Brucie really wanted him a reckon it would have happened long before now.

9.5 million for a top class winger in the current Market is good business.

Surely we haven't spent anywhere near the Bent & Henderson money so some of this could have gone on wages

    Disappointing

When it looked full on we were to get him, some said how erratic he is. When it looks like we wont get him, some are saying we have missed out big style.

Perhaps we are going for the Leeds young left-sided instead. Good reports on him from Leeds fans, a lot less money?

gradel looks a prospect for sure at a level below prem but he's a risk and would still cost near to 5m from what I've read. we as sunderland fans know the difference between players who are great in the championship but can't step up. carlos edwards another wide man springs to mind here, capable of the extraordinary in the championship, rabbit in the headlights in the premier league. newcastle fans will tell you the same about wayne routledge.

TBH I don't see how we can get close to Villa with the money they have from selling Young and Downing. Would love to sign CNZ, but they can outbid most teams at the moment.

Shame. I would have loved him at Newcastle. Quality player. The type who could really improve any mid-table squad and add a lot more bite to the attack.
