When I was growing up in the middle to late fifties I seem to remember the radio as being pretty much crap. Occasionally there was stuff by Elvis, Fats Domino, The Everlys, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Righteous Brothers etc, and the few records that we used to play on the mono record player! It was nice music to listen to, but it wasn`t until the early sixties I started to buy records. The usual suspects: the who, the stones, the animals, the beach boys, spencer davis group, the byrds, bob dylan, moody blues, procul harum etc.

One of the most underrated bands of all time.

Checked out your tunes, swanee. All spot on. Hope you don't mind, but I've copied the URL's & posted them on the Cardiff boards' music thread (Genuine intentions....might not agree on football matters, but your music taste is '**** hot'. Check out aber's music thread on the Cardiff Board). Cheers.

I bought the complete box set last year but haven't had a chance to watch it yet as the Mrs isn't into it. One of my absolute favourite comedies along with Stan and Ollie (again, the complete box set!).

Check out the ad-lib at 22:25 in that episode when the chimp leaves the table, genius <laugh>

Anyway, I thought this was the musical thread! Maybe start another for comedy :emoticon-0105-wink:

Surely the thread can accommodate the occasional change in direction. <ok> No requirement to be hard and fast.

I seem to remember some Bilko episodes where music was writ large into the script/plot,viz,an Elvis Presley look alike, called Elwood Prestle(?).
Bilko tried to tape him when he was singing in the shower. I think he also tried to get Bing Crosby into his platoon.

The chimp went to "call for another lawyer". Genius indeed. <laugh>

I guess not. It's your thread after all <cheers>

I'm chuckling to myself just thinking about it

Hmmm. It's not really my thread, but I know what you mean. I regret putting my name in the title,it's a bit pretentious.

In hindsight, perhaps "Anything goes, within reason", would have been a more all encompassing title. <cheers>

"And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cos there's bugger all down here on Earth."

Genius.

It's not often someone manages to move this cynical Jack bastard but this one by Billy Bragg really gets to me...

OK - still reeling on Bowie. <sorry>

This was Rick Wakeman's tribute on Radio 2 recently. He played on the original of course. This had the public blubbing when it was aired. Simply beautiful.
