ah ok, they may have been a tweet about us being linked to alex texeira too, might want to post that...some exclusive stuff
I'm not arguing against you, although I'd sell (I'd have sold Alger much sooner too) I can fully understand not selling too. However... Are you saying it makes sense to keep paying a injured player £140,000 per week?
It might do if Klopp can get him properly fit by the end of this season and he spends the next 5 banging them in. I'm not holding my breath on that one, but we don't know what will happen. I definitely wouldn't sell him now, but if his injury problems show no sign of improving I'd probably let him go in the summer.
This. Wouldn't make sense to sell now given our problems, he's worth the risk of keeping. However if he comes back and breaks down twice smore between now and end of season then moving him on might be best option. Thing is, who is going to pay for him as well as match his wages? What would we want for him? £15m?
It's not like it's a knee jerk reaction either though. He's 26 and he's only managed to play around 150 games in his career so far. Obviously I'd love him to recover properly and bang in the goals. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it happening.
Get shut, get the money, buy someone who is not made of glass. Football is a business, no room for sentimentality.
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/22/liverpool-bid-shakhtar-donetsk-striker-alex-teixeira Nothing really new on Teixeira but I imagine we will bid again soon.
If that were the case, why **** about chasing those shiny trophy things? Let's just run the whole thing for profit. It's because so many people see it only as a business that it's turned to **** over the last few decades. I'm not suggesting we keep Sturridge out of sentimentality - who has? Just that we can afford to wait a little longer to see if the new regime can do a better job of sorting him out. If they can then we have a top class player. If we give him away in a lucky bag (which is the only way we'd smuggle him out at the moment), and someone else can fix him then we've lost said top class player. Sentiment doesn't come into it- it's a calculated football risk.
I think Sturridge has until the summer to prove his worth. If he doesn't feature for us before then, he really is a waste of space
I said on here at the beginning of the last season that I feared he was screwed. I still think that's true, but I'm willing to give the new people a good stab at getting him fixed. I think that even the small risk of losing him for next to nothing -only to see him come good elsewhere- is worse than chucking him another 6 months wages.
