Bolton were something like £70-80m in debt when they got relegated, which in itself is quite the achievement. I guess for a football club in that kind of predicament, your options are to try and spend your way out of it, or make massive cuts to football spending and risk further relegations. If either fails the result is the same (administration), so you can see why spending your way out is the most appealing first option.

I really don't know what the point of the Scottish league is. It was already pretty boring all sides playing each other 4 times. Since Rangers got taken out, they could have just shut it all down and said Celtic can have all titles and Champions league qualification.
