Hmmmm depends on what you call bigger and better. Tobes points quote 3/4 players. One of whom is a barca lad. Galloway, stones and barely stand head and shoulders now as the examples. Byram is a buy today.. Can't be a development example. Who have everton sold on in last 5 that's been immense? I can quote two that have done nowt. The reality for lfc is that we have brought kids in from all over but we've not moved them great. Our 19 year record on rafa young cbs is half decent but in the main we've seen lower league at best for Darby spearing Coady and a few evening Scotland. Ward is one very rare example we poached and has done ok.. no results there yet. Wisdom is at least prem rb. Kelly is squad plater in prem Teixeira was poached and needs to move after back injury. Suso.... another poached who got big ideas. ibe was poached in There's a long list of guys who've got a chance... Does Rodwell count for everton... perhaps everton have got the best out of their deals cos they did less and then worked harder on them as Klopp espouses.... interesting thought... or just bull...
Martinez took a team that had finished 5th and 6th, spent £80m+ and is now 11th and (so far) 11th It's fine so long as you admit the idea of CL was a lie
Ibe and sterling were as 15 year olds... Stones was years ago too by that logic. Agree on can As an of today lfc youth supply Ward bought Wisdom bought years ago Sinclair bought and will leave Brannigan. Rossiter Kent Ojo bought Randall Smith bought in late Maguire Stewart bought Williams Cleary Chirivella bought Allan bought Canos bought Other are too old like teix. All those have a first team game or preseason game of some sort. There's 20 others both you and I could say at underage. My point is there's a huge amount of supplanting going on. I prob have not even got all the buys marked right.
I didn't put that because it had already been mentioned Unfortunately no mate as a youth prospect with no particular affiliation now wouldn't, in fact we'd be way down the list (obviously I would have personally like but I think my chance of that passed a few years ago ). I'd say Saints, Arse, Everton etc are way ahead of us. When you speak to these kids families it's not just about opportunities alone, it's as much about the ethos and values added to the end results. I just don't buy the "pay them £5k more and they'll go to Citeh" argument either. It will no doubt apply for some but actually most parents have a wider, more rounded view of their kids future.
Well you are talking about what age as i asked about that lad who's family moved to everton. great on them but thats way before money comes in. Some offer private schools now that don't end if the player is dumped. that on its own is worth its weight in gold. The end result irrespective of football should be the child gets a proper education. however when I say 5 k more i am seriously taking 16 onwards, when 17 hits... you can't tell me if a club offers you say 500 a week and another 5.5k a week you will choose the 500... (exaggerating)
So you'd send your child to play at a club with less stability who really treat their youth as cattle....or one where there appears to be at least a semblance of stability and a bloody good reputation for respecting not just the kids but their families too? I take no pleasure in saying it but that IS how the two clubs are viewed in their own city. I find it hard to imagine that reputation differs anywhere else do you?
He's 14 and his dad reckoned they had two more lucrative offers (how true it is who knows but it certainly cements what I already suspected). Of course once they are older and they have had agents whispering in their ear for a few years things change. The point is that right now Everton have worked bloody hard to build a good reputation at youth level whereas we've spent years alienating the locals in favour of random Hungarians etc.
Nothing to do with the comment you quoted I am in full agreement that Everton is better for allowing non-elite young players to develop with more opportunities and fewer expectations But when you speak about the potential of young players in our team, you mean what they can do for us in a season or two. When you speak about potential for Everton players you mean what they can achieve at their next club.
It prob is. My view is theres a flood of young lads in at anfield and that must put off families This comes form my list of tracking change at LFC done during summer Bobby Adekanye: 16 year old at PSV, was at barca at 12 and one of 9 that caused the embargo. Is a free confirmed 2nd july Brooks Lennon - salt lake city, 17 year old striker. announced 3rd july Elijah Dixon-Bonner- Arsenal, 16 year old midfielder announced 6th July Allan rodrigues de sousa 500k from sc internacional - announced 1st August finalised 2nd september Taiwo Awoniyi,- announced 31st August So we basically surplanted these players into our academy. we then did this: Ward (season long loan to Aberdeen announced 26th june) Jordan Williams - Swindon on season-long loan. Lloyd Jones to Blackpool on loan - announced 10th July Ojo to wolves on loan - announced 5th august Lawrence Vigouroux to Swindon Town on a season-long loan - announced 4th august Harry Wilson to crew - loan unitl january - announced 26th August Joe Maguire to Leyton Orient - 1 month initial loan - announced 28th august Ryan McLaughlin to Aberdeen - loan to January. Announced 29th august Taiwo Awoniyi, loan to FSV Frankfurt. Announced 31st August. (new club link here??) Yesil to FC Luzern -season long loan announced 31st Augusy Allan has immediately joined Finnish side Seinajoen Jalkapallokerho on loan until Januaeye after signing for lfc announced 2nd September. So 2 guys had not even a work permit but came in and went out again... message? club values them over me to the kids that see them. Basically its ok for a club to get a couple of guys after the age of 17 like everton have but are everton dropping guys in at 15, 16 as well?
What like Sterling you mean? Care to name any Everton youngsters who've deserted the club in recent years for the bigger, better deal???
Name an Everton player who's received praise and not immediately linked with a move away? Stones, Barkley, Lukaku, all their hype is entirely in the context of who they could play for.
Every club in the game is part of the food chain, unless you're Barca at the summit every clubs outstanding players are linked with clubs further up the pecking order. Yours is no exception, and you've lost more than we have in recent years, as we've made a better fist of keeping our best players. Coleman, Baines, Barkley and Stones to name but 4. We've turned down offers flat, for all of them.
We all love youth players .. Until they fail to play at a world class level when they break into the first team. Players like Origi, Markovic, Ilori, Insua were all written off when they failed to set the world alight. LFC may not give youth a chance but neither do fans.
Yes and we are higher in the food chain Yes Sterling left, to go to a team that hasn't finished outside the top 2 for 4 seasons and to become one of the highest paid players in the world
