David Bowie has 10 albums in the UK Top 40 album charts, with Blackstar at no. 1, plus 13 singles in the Top 100.
Its crass - but its just America ! I couldnt be disturbed by this this, American politics is full of such unbelievable rubbish. Having said that it is a great country and the average American is the most hospitable person you can find. Id sooner with with them than without them.
Close, although a few of them are compilations. He's actually got 18 albums in the Top 100, which is quite remarkable. All in here: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart/Hmm, let me guess the other nine...

I just don't even know where to start...
...I am genuinely disturbed.
Seems incredible that the doses may have been wrongly calculated. I've read that, back at the beginning of the tests, the doses were very small and gradually built up. Putting the potential error and tragic circumstances aside for a moment, it is significant to note that only a minority were very badly affected, so this appears to be a case of toxicity to particular people, either through bad samples of the test drug, or through an allergic response from those who suffered the awful consequences. Or the doses were wrongly calculated, as you say. Awful.I worked for a drug company. Staff are usually the first to test drugs...I only took part in one trial because my veins were too small for the frequent sampling needed. The worse effects were mild rashes. Cannot remember a serious accident happening. Usually initial doses are very small....I wonder if doses were wrongly calculated.

So much care is taken, but there is always a chance of an adverse reaction in humans, but not in animals. As said, there appeared to be no problems at lower doses...or small problems that were considered unimportant. Not without risk...even without error. Always has to be the first person...in this case, young and healthy.
Thalidomide is still used, but sadly pregnant women was the one group it shouldn't have been used for. I think they actually ignored some warning signs, rather than it being something unexpected (if I remember correctly).Thinking about it, there have been several instances of test/new drugs having terrible side effects. Thalidomide, was my first recollection.

It was never fully tested on pregnant women. It was never meant to be used to alleviate morning sickness, but that, tragically, is what led to thousands of women having deformed babies and still-births. It's only used nowadays as a treatment for multiple myeloma, a form of cancer of plasma cells.Thalidomide is still used, but sadly pregnant women was the one group it shouldn't have been used for. Thalidomide was sold over the counter though, not prescribed, and advertised as being of benefit to pregnant women. That was criminal anyway, even if the consequences hadn't been so appalling. The thing is that someone is always first...impossible to test on pregnant women without giving it to a pregnant woman. That's why it is generally best to avoid drugs wherever possible in pregnancy. However, mustn't think of morning sickness as always mild....it can threaten both the mother and child. Some women have had abortions because their lives were at risk. Another problem is that drugs are rarely tested on children (except when desperate such as for cancer)...just too risky for drug companies....so it comes down to a doctor making a clinical decision to give a low adult dose.
Thought it was a POM....didn't know it was available over the counter. So long ago now (apart from for the poor victims) that have forgotten details.Thalidomide was sold over the counter though, not prescribed, and advertised as being of benefit to pregnant women.
