Always thought he was bit overrated, but the transfer fee is quite reasonable and it's hard to argue he doesn't have a knack for scoring.
You have got that so wrong he is a first class bloke first class professional and a first class striker the least disruptive player you could have your players and fans will love him and he is a massive loss for QPR!! ⚪️⚪️
Fee is quite reasonable! Not sure what you expect as that is nothing for a 26yo striker who scored 18 goals last season
To be fair, I had the impression that he was a disruptive player, earlier in his career, but that was by rumour and reputation only. Evidence has shown that he is a level headed guy who fits the Southampton FC philosophy.
18 goals in the prem season, whoever you play for, is not to be shrugged off, so looking forward to it. This is the same feeling. I had when we signed fonte, I couldn't really believe it and for a good price
Ha I think Kruger most definitely is in charge. Whether he lets Les think he is is another matter. I suspect this is like most relationships where a controlling party often lets the other think they are making the decisions which of course they are....if they are the right decisions
It's maybe 1/3 of what you expect. Still there are reasons-- the supposed lack of ligaments, wage demands, partying reputation, etc. Still, it is a good price. That is why I'm open-minded about the deal even though I don't personally rate him that highly. I do not think we actually needed a striker given that I see us safely mid table with little chance of doing better or worse. But he is worth a shot, and is definitely not terrible, and can be moved on the summer hopefully if he proves to be good but not great as I suspect.
That's all I wanted....a striker who is definitely not terrible. What more could you want. Personally, I think he will suit us fine. I note he signed a 4.5 year contract...seem to prefer longer contracts now.
Meh. How is it not being positive? I like this deal. I just don't think Austin is the guy to propel us to the next level. In large part because I don't think any one player can do that anyway, But it means we have four strikers at about the same level. So if we want make a big summer move, or we try to work in Juanmi or Seager, one of these guys will have to be moved on. Even if Mane goes. So this gives us options, which is good. But it wouldn't be so good if we had paid a Long-like price. I am not one of those who has been moaning about Seager not getting a chance, but whatever... Let's just all completely ignore the massive amounts of kvetching about that over the last week like it never happened. England's future 9 is now completely buried, but U suppose now he must never have been that good anyway.
