Big fan of him. He always made the roles he played his own. Personal favourites Die Hard and Love Actually. RIP
Big Fan too....Sheriff of Nottingham my fav. Cannot believe how many people are being struck down by cancer this month...all people I feel as though they have been there all my life. RIP
Die Hard and Robin Hood showed he was the world's most likeable baddie. Wonderful performances. Loved him in Galaxy Quest as well, seemed to be a real spoof of his reputation as a 'serious' actor... RIP
Hans Gruber gone. Another huge talent passing. Surely an old Etonian? No. Born in a council house. Admirable. RIP
Very sad to see, seems too young. Die Hard, Robin Hood a different role in Sense and Sensibility...featured in some fantastic films over the years, and was in Harry Potter as well. RIP.
Great actor and a proper rise to fame Only thing to add is 69 What normal person the UK wants to live beyond that?
More really sad news, Brilliant actor. I am a big Harry Potter fan and he was superb throughout the whole series, he was also excellent as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood. RIP Alan, you will be a great loss to the acting profession.
Despite struggling with deteriorating health, Paul, my father has reached the age of 79, but I'm sure would like to live longer. I like to think this is normal.
Never thought that much of him as an actor, but he seemed like a good man - which is more important. RIP.
He found a role and played it to death (with quality and humour - he inserted all the jokes -"Christmas is cancelled" etc into Robin Hood) in the movies, but was by all accounts a very fine stage actor and a nice bloke. RIP
A great actor and by all accounts a good guy, no one played a baddy like him. They say things come in 3s so hopefully he'll be the last
Sadly never saw him Col. I enjoyed his film work, though it was very clear he wasn't stretching himself, even when using a German accent he was essentially a sarcastic Englishman. Made many a **** film more bearable, though for me the Harry Potter films (and books) are beyond salvage. I did see Kevin Spacey on stage in "The Iceman Cometh". Mesmerising. It was only when we left I noticed that it was about 4 hours long.
Good luck to him sir Apologies I was coming from the fact that too many elderly are not cared for in the UK ... If they are then it's through love and family but I am not keen on the industry developed to profit from getting old Your father is lucky to have a good boy like you Around me in France I see such a massive difference where resource is aligned with the respect that generation deserves My neighbour is 93 and is delivered top quality meals and physical therapy in her own home... Daily including weekends This is standard practice and also in a remote hamlet where her son of 70 also lives, he is fit and could have the same if he wanted... Again standard stuff It's based on these things that I made my statement
Given that they were both 36 when they retired that is impressive. Joke!! Upsettingly I'm 55 next week, which sounds much worse than 54. No one has given me the respect I deserve for at least 30 years. Ingrates.
