I dont blame Derry if he wants more money. He is the manager of Gaffney so if a team wants him, lets see how badly. Put their money where their mouth is.
The Post have come out with 4 targets that DC may want to look at if the attempts to Gaffney ends.
Marc Richards:
Darrell Clarke is believed to be a big admirer of Richards and the club are thought to have enquired as to his availability last summer. The interest was waved away but speculation that Richards may be available at the right price has increased of late.
Oxford United in particular have been linked with the vastly-experienced striker while Northampton's decision to sign James Collins recently has serve to further fuel the rumour mill.
Very much a robust and old school lower-league striker, Richards knows his way around League Two and has scored 15 goals in 28 games to put second-placed Northampton very much in the promotion mix.
Matt Tubbs:
Was at Salisbury with Darrell Clarke and was a target during the last January transfer window after his contract with Bournemouth was ended by mutual consent.
Rovers instead moved for Jermaine Easter and Tubbs was eventually snapped up by Portsmouth. He scored nine goals in 23 games, but has been hampered by injury this season and is un-fancied by new manager Paul Cook.
Tubbs, who is also interesting AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers, lacks the physical presence offered by Gaffney – but almost guarantees goals and could be the ideal solution should Matty Taylor be lured away from the Memorial Stadium before the end of the month.
Armand Gnanduillet:
Has recently completed a successful half-season loan spell at Stevenage and has returned to parent club Chesterfield. Teddy Sheringham is keen to do a deal that would see the Frenchman return to Broadhall Way for the remainder of the season and Grimsby Town are also interested.
Would add height to Rovers' attack at 6'4" and has League Two title-winning experience with Chesterfield in 2013/14.
Jamille Matt:
Another striker who has recently completed a loan spell at Stevenage and has returned to his parent club Fleetwood Town. Has only scored three goals in 25 appearances for the Hertfordshire-based club but has pace to burn and would also provide a physical presence in attack.
Had a good goalscoring record – 22 goals in 62 games – playing at National League level for Kidderminster Harriers to persuade Fleetwood to break their record transfer fee to sign him in 2013.

CJS from the above I would gladly take Richards and Gnanduillet. Matt Tubbs would be a good signing if he is fit but I don't think that Jamille Matt has proved himself at the level we are now at let alone at a higher level. I am sure that there would be many suggestions as to who should leave to make room for the second striker, and mine would be Easter who I don't believe has proved his worth at the Rovers. Do feel free to disagree
We do need a striker. Matty's gone off the boil, Easter's a 1 in 5 player and I'm afraid that Ellis is not good enough.

Richards would probably involve a fee and he would probably attract a few League One clubs anyway.
Next time we get a loan signing something in writing about signing the player would be useful. Hopefully we'll get Gaffney, but it looks a bit of a mess so we might not...

It's probably better than a gentleman's agreement...Do you trust that even if we get it in writing, would it be watertight?

I just saw the words the sun and thought "bollocks to that" 
At least it clears one thing up. He wants to play for the Gas not Cambridge.
Let us hope that the Cambridge board realise that it is pointless having a player who would rather be elsewhere. I suspect that they wil be waiting as long as they can for rovers to get desperate and raise some anti.I also hope that Rovers do not sign someone else without giving Cambridge the nod.
