U’S NEGOTIATE PERMANENT MOVE FOR GAFFNEY Cambridge United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Bristol Rovers for striker Rory Gaffney, who departs the Abbey Stadium. Having made the switch from Ireland to join the U’s from Limerick in January 2015, Gaffney did not make his Cambridge United debut until last August against Stevenage, due to a ten month spell on the side lines with a foot injury. Since then Gaffney has scored twice in seven games and was moved out on loan to the Gas in November. The U’s have now negotiated a permanent deal for the 26-year old and commenting on the switch, Manager Shaun Derry said: “The intention of Rory moving to Bristol Rovers on loan was for him to return fitter, stronger and in a better frame of mind, solely focussed on the remainder of the season. “Sadly Rory came back wanting to move to Bristol Rovers and when a player makes that decision, we only want people here who want to play for this football club. “Everybody has to be 100% committed to what we want to achieve and with Rory saying he wanted to be elsewhere then our minds our made up. “We have been able to secure a deal with Bristol Rovers that is right for our football club.”
That must be something of a speed record after the ridiculous performances in the attempts to acquire the services of O'toole and Constable. Common Rory give us your best shot!!!
Some comments from Cambridge fans via twitter.... Some sensible comments but a lot of unhappy U's fans! hahahah they paid money for him he was going to leave in the summer anyway... i think its a good bit of business just a shame in the circumstances tbh... what a tosser 2 goals in a few games just after coming back from an injury. We shouldn't of let him go out on loan. What a shambles! Shaun Derry is an absolute joke Gaff gets goals Rory can go **** himself but I'm more pissed off at club, handled this whole thing horrendously. Shockingly handled by the Club. Embarrassing and Tinpot. It better be a good fee for him **** off ginger twat just a **** Dave Kitson anyway.
I suppose we should just move on, but I can't get my head around the situation. Rovers and Rory both say that he would come on a free if Rovers wanted him. George and Derry say he came for fitness. We live and learn. Do not rely on verbal agreements.
Well good for you Rovers fans. You've got the man you want and he's gone to the club he wants to play for. Seems like everything's turned out well for all parties after the nonsense of his return to Cambridge. Point two and more important from my point of view as a Luton fan is that he won't be terrorising our defence this Saturday. I reckon he could well propel Rovers into a play off place. Right now at Luton, our main concern is persuading the players to treat the ball as something to be loved and caressed as against it being a hand grenade in a pass the parcel game!
Last time we scored that wasnt from him was 19th December! Hopefully he will start scoring again but we have some tricky games coming up.
Lucas has joined Boreham wood until the end of the season. Tyler Lyttle, has extended his stay with Nuneaton. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news...s-and-lyttle-2903102.aspx#CxLAzlgXPCCtxU9k.99
Got the impression that we were looking for a goalkeeper and with our 2 fullbacks out on loan a defender would seem to be a need
Remember Jeffrey Monakana? We had him on loan at thart of the season. He has cancelled his contract at Brighton to join Romanian side FC Voluntari. Also, do you remember Jim Gannon? He has returned to Stockport County for his 3rd spell as manager. When will they learn
Don't need GK IMO Mildy has been playing well why change it around now and when Puddy is fit Preston can go back out of loan somewhere just seems it will be a waste of a loan to me.
As DC has already told Mildy he is not in his plans it would seem to be a good idea to look for a possible replacement
