He didnt defend to well in a game against Oxford when he litterally knew he was leaving the club, Im not saying its exusable, but whether its enough to give me concerns about signing him is a different story. He Left liverpool because he couldnt break into the team, if anything this is a good thing, he wants to play, it shows his willing. I am happy his sighning, perhaps could have shaved a bit of the price, but then again, I turn my Wifi off at night to save money!
For what it's worth I think he's a good player and will be pleased if we get him in. He's good on the ball isn't afraid to get stuck in or have a shot and will improve us. I just hope this signing is backed up with a striker and centre back.
BOOM Shelvey and Townsend Townsend is getting more and more likely, he has told tottenham that he will only leave to to Newcastle! Give it a day and he will be doing a medical, unlikely to do medical today he played last night for U21 (scored 2) and Newcastle have been in contact to get this deal done!
Dont listen to him! Hot Water costs the earth! do you know how much a 20 minute shower in Hot Water Costs you!
One think I didnt really consider with Shelvey is that not only does he strengthen our midfield, he considerably weakens Swansea's which when it could come down to a couple of points at the end of the season, he could be the difference between us and them. I'd love to see Huw Jenkins face if Swansea get relegated! Aston Villa Sunderland and Swansea would be proper mint!
He can occasionally be creative and he is tough in midfield, but his personality is not very good and he can be disruptive, hopefully he will have matured some in recent times, if so he could be a good acquisition for us.
if we are prepared to splash £12M on Shelvey am sure they don't mind spending £10M on Townsend! To me though it should be £10M for the pair!
Yep pleased with this. We desparatly need to re-vamp our options in midfield we are so predictable at the moment.
We're paying £12 million for Shelvey because there is a sell on clause in his contract apparently. Liverpool stand to get £3 million. Explains the inflated price as they are effectively getting 25% of any fee.
You are taking Jonjo off our hands and giving us money. The way he performed against Oxford has been described as 'putting in a shift' by Jonjo faithful, which is about right for him. From outside the Liberty this morning - Swans supporters offering to to drive Jonjo to Tyneside.
Barton had that reputation and Robert too. Both seemed to fit in well in the end though. Hope Shelvey follows suit.
To be fair we can't complain about Liverpool being involved in player price inflation after we rinsed them to the tune of £35m on AC
Ha ha. I've defended Shelvey on our Forum. He won us a lot of points last season and probably made the difference between us being 8th instead of 12th. But even I now have to admit that whereas he has immense talent if his head isn't right he doesn't try and is languid on the pitch. His performance at Oxford (like so many others) was awful. Sad to see him go but he's a surly bastard and is clearly not happy so thanks for the money. As for some of the assertions here that it will "weaken an already struggling Swansea side" I'm not so sure. Our midfield is more than decent and I guess it depends what we do with the money.
