My one and only competitive school match aged about 13, ended with us all out for 11. I top scored with 4 (yes, an edge that made the boundary as I tried to get out the way) :)

We knew things were going to be bad, when they came out in whites, with white jumpers and school colours on the trim. We just took our ties off.

This reminds me of my game playing for Taunton's College.

The PE teacher who drove us to Brock on the minibus told us that the college hadn't won a game since Chris Tremlett captained the side and we were promptly skittled for under 30.

I was a football team mate of Graham Thorpe, but clearly none of his cricketing talent rubbed off on me!

I played a game once where we bowled the opposition out for 8 runs in a county cup game. They were 2 or 3 wides too from memory. I've seen the opponent score 12 twice and 8. Remarkably teams have actually been bowled out for 0 before.

Anderson and Broad are still absolutely steaming in <laugh>

To be fair they've only bowled 63 overs between them out of the 195 overs. But I'm surprised they are still steaming in considering the score

Yes another drop. Should have taken that. Not easy, but I expect keepers to be taking that at test level. England need to be careful here. It won't be nice if SA can build a lead of 150 and declare with 2 sessions and a half sessions left. Hopefully we can get the last four out quickly.

Thinking about it SA can't actually lose from here. England aren't going to be able to get enough runs to declare until there's only about a session and a half yet. They should probably declare once they reach England's score and try to bowl England out cheaply. It depends whether they want to get the lead first or chase the target down. If they don't declare they need to treat it like the last 5 overs of a t20 once they reach England's score

You seem to be thinking like Smith on TMS , it would send a MASSIVE message if SA declared . I LIKE to think England will be more than up for the task of batting long enough / making enough runs to make sure of a draw , but what if .........

From the BBC

Imagine how the bowlers must be feeling. They've bowled more than 200 overs and seen 10 catches shelled. That's one every 20 overs. England have made enough chance to take 16 wickets. They'd have been on the way to an innings victory. Has someone replaced their shower gel with butter? Did you ever see that episode of Friends where they played catch for hours on end? This England team is full of Chandlers. He was a dropper.

At senior school, I played in a match where the opposition were all out for 1 run.
Also played once, at junior level, for Southampton schools. Ran one player out, but unfortunately he was on my side, and he slipped up when I refused to go for a quick single. It was my call, so served him right.
Should have played a second game, for Southampton schools, but it was the same day of a certain cup final, in 1966, so I stayed home. Football first, for me.

Taunton's , ah yes , I remember it well :-)

Glory be, England have caught one. Joe Root, standing at short cover with a bucket, has held on as Chris Morris lofted a drive off the bowling of Steven Finn. The end of a 167-run stand.
*Joe Root was really holding a bucket.

They've declared then. Tricky little spell for England before the close.

England dropped 8 catches according to BBC Sport

As above , can we deliver ? By that I mean , Bat sensibly ?

I hope so! And there's no need for us to bat ultra negatively and go into our shell. Hopefully we bat normally or it will give SA confidence and make the other batters nervous

Judging by what happened a couple of months ago this game is by no means a draw yet. England still have work to do (of course). England started day 5 569/8 in Abu Dhabi after Pakistan posted 523/8d. We were only 25 runs short of chasing the target down. Cook should have declared earlier, or got the tail to bat like they had a train to catch.
