The sad part of this tragedy is that he would've probably survived if someone had basic CPR skills. It took too long to get oxygen into him and by that time he'd suffered irreversible brain damage.

Jeez. I read about him having a heart attack a few days ago. The Newcastle fans did one of those 'applause' things that are so popular nowadays at their game on Boxing Day, I think it was.

I'm hitting 50 next year and am known to run about pretending to be half my age, so it really makes you think.

His poor family.

If this is fact then makes you realise how first reactions and treatment are so important .... Condolences to his family , I remember when he was at Newcastle , ginola, asprilla days .....god bless

A work colleague passed away of a heart attack in our office some 11 years ago - I have remembered him by getting certified in CPR and although I've not had to use it, I have maintained that certification until now. and I agree with Nines:

"The sad part of this tragedy is that he would've probably survived if someone had basic CPR skills".

Great post.

I hope that you never have to use it Maple, it's definitely not a nice experience. Well done for keeping up your skills. I think we should all be taught basic CPR at school and thereafter. You never know when you'll need it and every second counts if you're ever called upon or find yourself in that situation.
 
I was inspired by the member of our Health and Safety committee who could and did provide CPR for my colleague, in a losing effort; and she was called on again a year later, also in a losing effort. She is now in management with that firm (now a former employer) but did, at the time of my leaving still carry some scars of those two incidents. I am also inspired by the Spur cardiologist ST holder who treated Fabrice Muamba, successfully on the pitch at White Hart Lane a few years back

And I agree, I hope I never need it either - but if I do, I can

Yes people die every dayDurbar, but whoever they are, however old they are, their death and the nature of death affects many other people close to them, and to other who can empathise with their situation.....Here many of us empathise with his young age, his young family, the fact he could have been saved, his connection with football in this country, the fact some of us had seem him play only a few short years ago. This empathy is what makes us different to many (but not all) animals.

It is sad that you cannot do this, it is truely very sad for you if this blasé response is not just an act.

Yes Durbar, people of all ages die every day and for all sorts of different reasons. My first son lived for only 12 hours, my Father died when I was 21 and my Mother has been gone for about 10 years now, so I have tasted my fair share of grief. But it doesn't stop me feeling sympathy and sadness for other people that lose loved ones whether they are professional footballers or road sweepers, it's called compassion.
You should look it up some time rather than trying to provoke a reaction on here.

I have every sympathy for the family's of people who die but its seems to be the weirdest thing to wish the dead person to RIP., especially when they are either stuck in a box and buried 6 feet down or stuck in an oven a toasted. :-).

I would think almost everyone on here have lost someone close so playing that card does not work.

Just a very sad illustration of how when your number is up it's up. Even the fittest are susceptible. I have had CPR training for my job and pray I never need to use it. RIP Pavel. One of the nicest touches was a card simply saying "Pavel, No.1 Geordie"...
