Not a song as such but possibly the most haunting Christmas Carol especially when performed by the extraordinary talents that are Alison Krauss and Yo Yo Ma.......The Wexford Carol

I genuinely love the Wombles one. Beach Boys' Little Saint Nick and that Pretenders one are also good but I do really like Wombling Merry Christmas and am singing it for hours after hearing it.

I like most Christmas pop songs, but have to say my faves are those I remember from my early childhood:

Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard

Step Into Christmas - Elton Welsby

I mourn the somewhat demise of the carol, though, and don't think you can beat God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen for its haunting tone. Sends chills (they're multiplying) up my spine when performed properly.

I picked up a CD some years ago featuring the New York Symphony and a NY choral ensemble. Those Yanks know how to bang out a Christmas tune of that ilk.

I love that Wombles song too, Matt.

The Darkness, don't let the bells end...

The Darkness have done a new Xmas song this year called "I Am Santa". It's not quite as good or immediate at "Don't Let The Bells..." but nonetheless a grower.
