I know you've probably got your tongue in your cheeky slightly, but I really don't get it when people slate Andy Murray and call him dull, boring, "dour" etc. I reckon he's good banter actually and always comes across to me as a top fella. Not to mention the fact he is without doubt one of the finest sportsmen ever produced by these Isles, I think he's great personally <ok>

You're entitled to your opinion Cromer, but I know numerous people were really pleased when Great Britain won the Davis Cup after years in the doldrums!!! <ok>

Think when he made that joke about his personality shows he doesn't take himself seriously and has a sense of humour, he just talks a bit dull. But he seems down to earth and a good guy, he also shows passion and heart when he plays tennis, something I like to see in a sportsmen/women.

Could not agree more mate. Most people who slag him off, I find, are the ones who know least about him. He DOES have a good sense of humour and is just a normal guy who happens to be extremely driven and good at what he does. I despair of people in this country at times. Apart from Henman, who with the best will in the world never had quite what it took, we have had no tennis players of note to really get behind in the last 40 years. We finally get one, and instead of celebrating his manifold achievements, we have a pop at him because he sometimes get's frustrated with himself on court, or hasn't got a photogenic smile! Ironically enough (considering his recent award) he is not trying to win a popularity contest. He's trying to be the best bloody tennis player he can be. I think he's doing a fantastic job, and is also about as grounded and nice (for want of a better word) a chap as most of us, I'm sure.
Consider his lifestyle:
Travel, practice, train, eat, rest, play, eat, massage, rest, play etc, etc. What nuggets of wit and wisdom is he supposed to be imparting along the way?

You can tell this is something that rankles with me!
 
I think Fury is an arsehole. I could be wrong. Also Murray is fighting against the best tennis players of ALL TIME.
The same cannot be said of Fury in his game.

My tweet, mentioned earlier, was very much tongue in cheek. It's called 'Sports personality...' and the way he interviews is erm, less than exciting.
But as a tennis player, fully deserved award. If it wasn't for Federer, Djokovic and (though not so much lately) Nadal, he'd have been world number one for some time now - and as was pointed out earlier on the thread, we in the UK don't have a huge number of those. Congrats and well deserved, Muzza! <ok>
 
I have a farm between Harleston ( South Norfolk) and Halesworth (suffolk ) . I have 11 staying with me over
Chrstmas . The blokes are a split between City and
Spurs . On boxing day we would love to slip out and
watch the game . Does any ,pubs , bars etc show
any Norwich games live in the area from foreign sports
channels or is it a no goer ?

Fury is a chancer who fought a formerly great fighter at the end of his prowess. Klitchko has been avoiding real fights for years. It was also a god awful fight that was about the worst example of Heavyweight boxing I can think of in recent years.

Why else would he fight people like Chisora or Fury. He should have been setting up a fight with Deontay Wilder, a pretty good fighter, to unify the belts. This is ultimately the problem with the way boxing fights are organised.

As Fleet said Fury isn't going to become a great. He will never be the best British figure ever. Where as Murray is probably the best British tennis player ever.

Joshua - Whyte was about a week later and the better fight by a country mile. The only downside was that it was competitive enough that it's put back a Joshua Fury fight by a few months.

If Fury gets through the Klitchko rematch, there's some decent younger boxers coming through who'll be trying to make his reign a short one, I think Joseph Parker might be ready before Joshua.

We all know that the term 'sports personality' is the original title from the 50s, and for as long as I can remember it's really been all about sporting achievement. Steve Davis has been in the top 3 five times. Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell and Nick Faldo (I think) have won it. These people are as boring as any I've ever come across on TV. (Actually, I like Steve Davis but don't stop me once I've started).

I get that you're being tongue in cheek, but the sad fact is that in today's world of professionalism in sport, who IS a personality? Why don't we give it to Ian Holloway? He's always good for a laugh..I'm struggling to think of a current top sportsman who genuinely IS a big personality..I guess you could say Tyson Fury, and maybe that's where you're coming from, but having a big personality doesn't necessarily mean it's a palatable one.

As I was reading this thread I was thinking exactly the same. Mansell could put people to sleep with his post-race thoughts. Congrats to Murray and the GB team too.
