Who doesn't long for the days of getting smashed 3-0 at home to City and Liverpool in consecutive games?!!

Be honest, who, last night dreamt of 82 glorious crosses? Suicide bombers dream of 72 Virgins while United fans dream of 82 crosses.

Here's a better question. Would we be top if we had Barcelona's attack? Yes.

No you wouldn't because Van Gaal would play Rooney over Suarez, put Messi on the wing, Neymar as a fullback, and instruct the team to be so defensive you still only manage 1 or 2 shots on target each half

There's only one person responsible for the fact we have only two strikers at the club right now. We know who that person is.

He's got a chance to get that sorted in January, in the meantime we have to hope one or both of our currently strikers doesn't get injured long term. Not that either is scoring at the moment anyway.

We buy a striker and pacey right winger in January and we've still got a good chance, no one is breaking away. Availability is the problem.

Yeh were not going to sign any known superstar in January but players like Mahrez, Mane etc could be tempted. Saints failed to qualify for Europa so Mane would be available home and abroad for example.

Mane could be a good shout for the wide position.

Is Austin still injured? I wouldn't want to pursue Vardy, too old at 29, especially considering everyone if writing Rooney off at one year older. I can't really think of another stop gap type who'd be available off the top of my head.

But what Moyes failed to do. Don't forget that Moyes binned a move SAF had put in place for Thiago, and Herrera had a release clause in place in summer 2013 as well, which Moyes completely failed to activate. So whether Moyes would ever have been decisive and skilled enough in the transfer market to assemble a squad of this quality is also up for debate.

Tbh I don't think Moyes would have done better with this squad, as he inherited a squad which was admittedly worse in midfield, but better stocked in attack and defence with Vidic and Evra still playing well in 2013 and RVP doing fine until Moyes decided it would be a great idea to "overtrain him to build up his fitness" and promptly broke him. Moyes would probably have shown more ambition and tried to win more games, but would invariably have done it in his usual one dimensional way or either cross the opposition to death or lump the long balls to Fellaini, both of which didn't work to any extent in his season.

I think Moyes could have scraped this squad into the top four, but I do still think that LVG has a chance, albeit a slender one, of competing for and potentially winning the title despite the negative approach he uses to get results.

I reckon the quote is probably from Depay. He's the only player in the squad atm who would be looking for excuses around why he's not performing, and the style of the manager is the obvious one. Worth noting there were plenty of other similar comments floating around the press about Moyes, and even the occasional one about SAF when a player failed to make the grade under him, so the fact Depay should be taking responsibility for his own poor form doesn't mean he will do.

I'm not sure about the Thiago rumour. I think there was far too much swaying him towards Bayern than us. I also think that while Moyes certainly showed his naivity in the first summer transfer window, he didn't lack ambition in terms of his targets (he just failed in the execution). However I believe he learned from that and I'll point to the time he used during that season going to watch plenty of prospective mf's and from what was rumoured, speaking to clubs about availability.

Moyes often punched above his weight at Everton and missed out on top 4 bcos there were 4 better teams. With a better squad like that we have now, I think he was capable of doing more. Ultimately the one thing above all that I think warranted his sacking was losing the dressing room. I'd have to agree that he may very well have played 1 dimensional football, but then, that's what we're doing now anyway. So although I don't want Moyes back, I don't see how we've moved forward. All we can say is that the difference between Moyes and LVG is guaranteed top 4 based on a better defence. That is hardly an impressive return for the squad we have now.

Stuff of dreams.

"We aspire to be as good as Liverpool and Manchester City"

Words of greatness.

Bring back the ditherer!

LVG did used to play attractive, attacking, expansive football at Ajax and Barcelona. Sadly he retired at AZ Alkmaar 6 years ago, just not everyone can see it.
"just not everyone can see it"

Only Treble is able to see his own points. Everyone else is either too slow or just plain blind to see the things that he perceives to be so obvious it hurts him.

Btw, this thread is idiotic considering how much Moyes has achieved since he left United. Did he not win La Liga?

They don't have to. You can sense the urges from some. The ditherer is clearly irresistible.

Ahhh so you're going to make up your own arguments then. Jolly good.

Reading is more than decoding words. Above the age of 5, there is a great deal of "comprehension" involved. You should try it, you might understand what ppl have said :-)

Moyes beat Barcelona or Real Madrid this one time. Bring him back! Ditherer massive!

And yes, weird isn't it. What opticians do you go to Treble to get such amazing vision that only you, literally only you can see.

When have I said "everyone is either too slow or just plain blind to see"??? I said "not everyone can see it" which means plenty can but a few (star struck fan boys) can't :)

Yeh bcos Sociedad have the same squad as us? Do you and UIR go to the same Kindergarten school by any chance?

Wow. I bow to your superior wisdom oh great one.

You're thread was a pile of **** like your opinions BTW, oh great one. You made it on the PL board for a very obvious reason. Nobody agrees with you. Ouch.

Being pedantic, that's not quite what he said.

He said we aspire to play like City and that we Liverpool were the favourites against us at Old Trafford. Both unforgivable toss of course but just saying what he said!

He may well have dithered in his signings but he lined up Herrera and Shaw, two of our better players.

He also left us Mata.

Then again, he also left us Fellaini!
