It was the hotel Monty Python stayed in, that was the basis of Cleese's idea, rather than the place it was actually shot. The actual building used in the programme was the Wooburn Grange Country Club in Buckinghamshire and it burned down in the 90's.
I watched a programme on it not long back, the country club actually became a night club called Basil's for a while before it burned down.
28th - Liverpool and England stalwart Gerry Byrne (77) succumbed to Altzheimers; memorably he played from the third minute till the final whistle of the '65 Cup Final with a broken collarbone. A Liverpool and England player of their present squad could do with just a little bit of his backbone.
