Yeah .................. shoot to kill police. In the not too distant future they can mirror their American counterparts.

Some of these charges are ridiculous - wearing a loud shirt in a built up area during the hours of darkness - coughing without due care and attention at a pedestrian crossing - being in possession of an offensive wife" <laugh>

Oddy, the only 'panic' signs I can see is in our glorious media, some of the tabloids are really stoking it up, idiots! My better half has always been a quiet lass and always thinks before she makes a comment, quite unlike her daft hubby! This morning she came out with the most extraordinary statement, after listening to event reports yesterday evening and early today, namely, that she thought Jogi Löw had been "scared ****less" (she rarely uses dubious language, either). To cap it all, she did not think much of Boateng either, when it was discovered he would not come out of the team cabin at half-time, last Friday, and had to be replaced by Mustafi. And she's been a Bayern fan all her life! Reckons he should have taken things a little more bravely along with his team mates who played the game out. Last time she was this put out was when she took her first look at the gear the German athletes had to wear for the 2012 Olympics!

Amazing really, never heard her talk like this before, she really was unimpressed with the cancellation of last night's game with Holland. My opinion, for what it's worth, don't really think they had much option. She, however, reckons that that police chief was 'got at', and that what he said was forced upon him. Wife reckons the Hannover police had things under control.

Ah well, life goes on.

Well, didn't exactly agree with her on the game cancellation, and never saw Jogi, so have no idea about what he 'looked like'! Boateng? He probably should have braced himself and gone out for the second half with his team mates. think that's a reasonable opinion?

The 'begging a certain question', meaning I'm usually daft, which I already indicated. However, you're right to beg the question..<laugh>
 
It looks as though German fixtures this weekend are to go ahead. With the Germany - Netherlands and the Belgium - Spain games being called off, where does this leave football when it comes to another threat? They can't keep cancelling games. And what then happens if they proceed and you know what occurs? This stuff in France could spread like the plague.
 
Swanny; returning to your good lady's comments. Was it the 'salmon' and sky blue outfits that gave her pause for thought? If so she has again shown remarkable taste!
When an individual uses 'cuss' words sparingly it gives his/her comment more weight. It ensures that those who are acquainted with that individual will listen and take account of that particular statement!!

Exactly, was it 'salmon', but anyway right up to the cocky little white hats. Some of those huge German field athletes did look silly in this outfit. My wife spent many years in the textile business, secretary to the company CEO/Chairman himself, so she did know what she was talking about. Also, she knew the owner of the textile concern (famous ski apparel company) who designed and made the gear on behalf of the German Athletics Association. Called him all sorts of names...<laugh>

Yes again, but was only taking the mickey out of myself!
 
Did not mention the 'cocky little white hats' as I recall purchasing a similar titfer whilst inebriated in Koln!!!!

Not sure whether you are taking the mickey, Oddy. No point having some armed police (not all of them like in America) if they are not going to shoot to kill.

I did say that they should challenge any potential jihadist first. If that person does not surrender and there is an obvious potential for them to kill themselves and other people, they should shoot to kill. These people have no useful role to play in our society so eliminate them from the gene pool as locking them up means the taxpayer footing the bill while they preach radicalism in prison.

In Paris this morning, some women blew herself up rather than be captured by French police and special forces. If she had been in the middle of the Place de la République, she would have taken some innocent people with her.

Francois Hollande sent troops to sort out former French colonies a few years ago but said that he did not want to become the “Gendarme of Africa”.

After the atrocities in Paris, he told the nation that France was at war with Islamic State.

A few days later, there is an attack on a hotel in Mali, a former French colony where the French still have troops stationed having helped the government with its problems in the North of the country, mostly coming from an Al Qaeda-backed Tuareg separatist movement trying to create an Islamic caliphate. Surely not a coincidence.

Trying to play the great global statesman may have backfired on Hollande in just one week...
 
Those of us domiciled in the UK get to watch This Week on the BBC on Thursday nights after the always overrunning Question Time.

Yesterday’s programme featured a very rare occurrence as George ‘Old Hat’ Galloway actually agreed with regular Michael ‘Choo Choo’ Portillo about something.

Naturally, the theme of the show was somewhat Parisian and they even had Citizen Khan writer and star Adil Ray on to talk about Muslim humour.

However, the most talked about feature of the show was host Andrew Neil’s introduction:
