http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/140...shut_part_of_St_Mary_s__due_to_bad_behaviour/ I was there and can't recall it happening, we used to have a poster or two that wanted us to create an atmosphere by using flares, as I recall the majority poo-pooed the idea.
It apparently came from Block 4, but the person wasn't identified, could have been either or neither a Saints or Cherry fan.
aww... I miss those days. Still think Lee Holmes could have been a good one if he just could have stayed healthy. Probably couldn't make the team nowadays with Mane and Tadic on the wings, but I think he could have hacked it in the Premier League with some club or another if he'd had the chance to develop properly. IMO, he was easily Championship quality even when he first signed for us at 21 or 22.
No doubt about that. He was a huge talent who just couldn't last more than three games. Shame. Makes you wonder if he was pushed too early. I believe he made his Derby debut at 16.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/14092869.Koeman_is_officially_the_best/?ref=rss Echo article talking about how Ronald is the most successful Saints manager in the PL era, beating both Strachan and Poch.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/14094291.Saints_star_sets_city_s_hearts_beating/?ref=mr&lp=8 Echo article talking about Saints' heart throb....strangely not Fonte Everyone to their own. Says that he has huge commercial appeal and would be a great loss in that sense....might be a small loss on the field as well Hidden in the article is one sentence saying that Pelle has squashed the idea he is not happy at Saints....that would have been the headline to me. Still mustn't argue with an article that necessitates a picture of a half-naked man.
http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/41122/ Reply in Ugly Inside to the club's letter to supporters following the flare throwing incident. The only thing I would add is that flare throwing isn't something that Saints fans do, so I would guess the thrower was a Bournemouth fan in amongst the Saints fans or, more likely, a brainless juvenile coming to his first Saints match looking for trouble because of all the silly publicity about this being a needle match. I doubt it will be repeated, but its not just down to the stewards to monitor the situation...other fans should make sure than any one attempting to repeat this is firmly told it ain't Saintly. And the writer of the article said that flares are seen as dangerous...not seen to be, they actually are. Can you imagine being hit by one of those if it landed in the crowd...and perhaps hit a child wearing a football shirt.
Didn't see it mentioned anywhere else - the Stoke game was match announcer Steve bennett's last for the club. Whatever your opinion of his presentation style, I can't argue that he hasn't given it 100% enthusiasm and dedication, really buying into the online coverage and particularly trying to involve the younger fans on a matchday. Felt a bit sorry for him that at the end of half time his message of thanks to the fans got lost slightly and not sure how many heard it.
I didn't hear it or realise it was his last game. Bless him. He really showed enthusiasm and yet another energetic, enthusiastic club person who was unnecessarily ridiculed.
No one in the Kingsland would have understood what was said anyhow, they never can, the announcements are completely garbled.
yeah, he got a bit emotional. It's kind of a thankless job really. At half time you have 30,000 people in the stadium, but probably only about 10% are paying any attention. He presented with great energy and was a breath of fresh air compared to the drip we had before him. Will the club bring back Dennis Rolfe? Just remembered the time I thought Steve Bennet was going to get sacked. It was when that tyrant Nicola Cortese started employing young ladies to sell lotto tickets and programs. One of the lotto sellers would assist with the draw and on one occasion the lotto girl was stunning. That's when Steve lost his cool and just kept telling her how good looking she was and it all got kind of creepy
Saints helped Steve a lot (if you talk to him he will say so himself) at a really difficult time in his life, and kept him on the straight and narrow. The presenting job at Saints has helped him too, more recently, and he's been doing voice-overs and announcement for Channel 4, E4 etc. He's off to the USA for a new gig, and Saints have been looking for a replacement for a few weeks now. Interestingly/amusingly, both Dan Lobb (former GMTV presenter - or whatever it's called) and Rav Wilding (of CrimeWatch) both offered to step in/assist!
That would be quite a good half time segment. Put a few e-fits or grainy CCTV images up on the big screen of local crims Have you offered your services or do you have no inclination to go down that road?
