So MLT 3rd out of 3 in the final of Eternal Glory. Unfortunately, he performed exactly as he looked. Lycra does him no favours at all and, for once, he didn't use his brain.

Still, well done to Matty. It was funny to hear him talk about preparing for a game/event. Everyone was getting warmed up and psyched up and he would basically just relax. Seeing these athletes prepare was obviously quite an eye-opener for him.

He got the weight dragging game wrong....he could have come second and gained an advantage. As he said, his stubbornness got in his way, when Emms twigged and took some weight back to the beginning. All the events favoured good physique whereas he got through before using his brains and hand/eye coordination. It was noticeable how often competitors mentioned that they didn't want to come up against Matt....not bad for an old, fat footballer. :) And it says something for the programme that it wasn't just fitness and strength because an unfit man and a woman got through to the final.

I've always liked her. I think she should be a captain on Question of Sport.

I only meant that strength for strength women would lose in a straight forward competition, but this show was interesting in that it was a mixture of skills. I certainly wouldn't take Emms on. <laugh>

But you must have known which coach they were talking about Fran.? Were you holidaying on the Moon when we signed Graziano.? :)
Agreed, if the neutral were to read that they might get confused.

That's why I questioned it. I wondered if we were trying to sign him during Poch's time....you know how long we take to sign anyone.

If the ol' memory serves me correctly, when we managed to get Koeman, it triggered a whole suite of players who we had in the database who we were interested in. So Feyenoord's Pelle, Clasie, Vilhena became associated with Saints. As we know, Saints do a lot of pre-scouting, video and data collecting to add to the database on players. In the case of the Feyenoord players, we added Ron's yay or nay to that, and so ended up with those first two. Vilhena still continues to be associated with us, but we have quite a few midfielders these days. He isn't super keen and the feeling appears to be mutual.

As to length of time to sign players, it depends whether the selling club are keen to do business or want to start trading. As we know, Red Bull Saltzburg are a bit like that, but we still got Sadio. Whereas Pelle came along once Koeman had given his approval. The only thing that needed sorting was the money.

An article in a series about footballing cities. Lays out facts quite well, though strangely glazing over our relegation from the EPL....we suddenly appear in the Championship. And there is no mention of our relegation to League 1. Perhaps the idea of talking about the city and the club was too big for a short article and our trials and tribulations were too well known to need repeating in detail.

He does say that the young team were bullied into relegation from the Championship but doesn't talk about Div One. And you're right, that would have been a huge article if all the trials and tribulations were gone through in any kind of detail.

Good article, and I suppose the purely football facts would have made it too long. Still, a good potted history of the club from the point of view of the commercial side and the relationship with the city.

Its such an amazing story, were it a different club than my own I would still find it very intriguing. Thank god for the knight in shinning amour, or the ending wouldn't have been a bit of a killer! <yikes> (easy to laugh now, but at one stage towards the deadline I thought it was game over)

I must be getting jaded or something. I knew Saints form was pretty good, but I didn't think it was this good. Here's the PL table for the last 6 matches:

We have 14 points from 18 compared with Chelsea's 4/18. How sad, never mind. :)
