I've had a lot of run ins with this lot recently and something one of them posted was the straw that broke the camel's back.
"The slaughter of animals is like the Holocaust. In fact, it's worse, because only 6 million people died when we slaughter billions of animals unnecessarily every year."
Now, I'm not Jewish. Or, as it happens, a cow. I still found this offensive. The sheer ****e that they're coming out with leads me to believe that there's some sort of cult forming, I mean, what sort of human being compares humanities greatest failure with the creation of meat products?
I'm seeing repeated posts regarding arguments that vegans have over "us meat eaters" and an enourmous list of every quip we could possibly come up with which they've painstakingly prepared in case one of us tries to denounce their crap.
I'm a patient person. People are welcome to a religion or a point of view as long as they're not preaching that they're right and I'm wrong. But this is different. They are telling me I'm wrong, that I'm "speciesist" because I don't consider a cow to have the same rights a human being does. I mean, am I going mad? How on Earth can we apply human rights, concepts, emotions and moralities to something that isn't human?
So far I've seen animal rights compared to The Holocaust, slavery, women's rights and the Columbine massacre. Then I get lambasted and death-threatened (no idea how that works on a vegan level, broccolied to death?) for telling them to stop telling me I'm wrong. Essentially, they're right because they see themselves as the ultimate altruists, so how can anything other than their own way be considered correct?
It's neither politics or religion, but I feel this could fast become one of those things that becomes such a pain in the arse, people are going to kick off.
