One of those rare occasions I can empathise with Happy's take on things.
When people moved to Milton Keynes, leaving slums behind for modern housing and open spaces they were very glad of the opportunity.
Anyone from a city which made a mess of its centre and its traditional communities to end up with Bransholme isn't in a position to sneer at Milton Keynes. Or some radio presenter from a tip like Glasgow.

I seem to recall that Branny was originally going to be a 'New Town' - i.e. separate from Hull - but the City Council couldn't stomach the idea of not having control over all that area's housing.
Result: huge housing estate, dependent on Hull...

Just looked it up on Wiki - Hull wanted it to be a new town, but the government would not approve that plan.

Assuming Burns is in the hotel at the stadium - yes it is surrounded by large barn like shops. Much like the premier inn at Kingswood is. Is that a testament to rampant consumerism in Hull too?

Mind, there are fewer abandoned asda shopping trolleys in the MK shopping park than at Kingswood.

They laughed at Harold Needler when he bought up land cheaply in that area after the war, saying no one would want that wet, crappy land for anything. A shame the council has never included any people like him with an eye for business.
There have been quite a few football league clubs with smaller populations than Bransholme. And numerous rugby league clubs who have won at Wembley and more times than
    Rovers.
For some odd reason they built an estate that big, with about 3 pubs originally, no youth clubs and a trip,to town an expensive undertaking and then were surprised that it became an undesirable area rather than some sort of futurist paradise. As for building flats with walkways which meant residents were disturbed at all times of the day and night...

I don't really get the MK (city) hate. Yes it's very samey and yes I was at Cranfield on the other side of the M1 and therefore rarely got further west than the Xscape shopping bit (and actually preferred Bedford as an old market town). But, amenities-wise, it is well catered for and I bet it's a great place to be a cyclist with all the redways to get you under the roundabouts.

As Happy says, the edges have some interesting parts (Bletchley, Stony Stratford). As a walking city it's pretty poor and I really hate the double-mini roundabout just south of the stadium near Tesco. Clogs up a treat (due to consumerists) but then having a grid system means it's pretty easy to find an alternative route.

I worked in Stoney Stratford for 6 months.
Its a lovely place and has the old coaching inns The Cock and The Bull next to each other on the high st. Thats where the term Cock and Bull story originates from.
I am home already because i had such a good exit on the exellent MK road systems.

Well that's at least one advantage that it has over Hull, getting across Myton Bridge etc just becomes more and more of a nightmare. I'm starting a new job shortly that will mean I have to get from Sproatley to Priory Park and back again every day, I'm dreading the journey, especially at rush hour.
