Nice one Masky!! Remember that one, cross had to be smack in the middle of ball too win, bit like the way you kick it, well for us mere mortals anyway.............. dont know about our players though? 
Blue, years ago I used to enter that competition on a weekly basis. The winner got £25k I seem to recall...big money back then. I received a letter from South Wales Echo, saying that I was the runner up one week to the winner and my prize...a free entry to the following week's competition. Cheeky buggers eh? 
Hey Masky, good recall. Funny how you forget about the little things that made footie all the worthwhile for going to watch. The crack with the guys, hanging around the Craddock arms waiting for a Glimpse of the opposition, the Friday night planning, meeting the boys in Bridgend or an away day with Mansel Davies Travel. Not forgetting we had a good team then...

Not sure I can tell where the ball is. I can say with certainty where its' not though (between those two vertical pieces of wood & under the horizontal one going across the top).
it was a rush to get home to Porth from a home game before the paper boy came round with the football echo. Knew the score though as we listened to this

Buying a Pink 'un caused the start of my criminal record.
Always bought one from the Echo stand outside the old Bridgend bus station. It was right next to the zebra crossing from the bus station across Market Street toward The York Hotel. I usually picked one up walking home after our own local games, but on this occasion I was in my pride and joy - my 1959 100E side valve Ford Anglia.
I stopped at the stand, got out and gave the guy the right money, grabbed the pink 'un and got back in the car - I couldn't have been out of the car for more than 20 seconds. I pulled out and young copper jumped out in the middle of the road by Cavalli's chip shop and flagged me down.
He said "do you know what those silver studs are for in the road sir?" (remember them?). This was before the zig-zag lines of today and denoted the no stopping area approaching the crossing. I apologised profusely and explained that I was only buying a Football Echo but he would have none of it. I got a £15 fine and that started me on my life of crime.

Should have called him down to the York walked around the corner and sledged him. Funny that, remember radio cabs office being right outside the crossing always kicked off there with the cops they used to love picking on the late night revellers, got done there myself, and then I bumpted into the offending object in the Pheasant in Penyfai, werent so hot when their on their own.......oh the good old days. lol
