At 18 years old it's a complete gamble, I've seen enough him to probably stay away until he develops. Look at Illaremendi, he was meant to be incredible but has now stagnated. Iker Muniain was tipped at 17 to be the next greatest player and now reaching 22 just looks like good player and nothing more. 18 years old with a price tag of 30 million we steer clear from.
You mean players who were bought for their experience and ability to slot straight into the first team? Bit different when comparing to youngsters coming from different countries. And you picked great examples - they all proved me wrong ...
Illara is still a good player - most players would struggle to establish themselves at Real Madrid. Muniain is a good example though. £30m is a lot and hopefully we can get him for much cheaper but there is a reason why the kid is so highly rated. Investing in the best youngsters is what we should be doing.
Gary Neville believes Klopp only needs to do one thing to bring the PL title to Anfield... http://www.givemesport.com/648926-g...ial&utm_campaign=Tribute-Pages-laika-II-1sted ...
Let me guess, buy a team? You are now in your 26/27th year of transition, another 5 year plan with a manager on a 3 year contract
This is the title of the article in that link... "Gary Neville claims Jurgen Klopp must sign world class players to win title"
Personally, I don't think we have that bad a team. Three or four introductions would see a massive change imo. The keeper could be better although I have no issue with Migs for now. Clyne is a good player that can defend and support attacks. No need to change him. Moreno looked poor last year and earlier this year but despite it only being a couple of games, he seems like a different player since Klopp arrived. Best crosser today tonight by far. Flanno will provide good competition to both of those too. Sakho is great, no need to change. However, he does need a partner. Skrtel isn't good enough and represents the previous failed era, he needs to go. Toure is well past it so needs to go too. Lovren can have a chance under Klopp but I think he'll need to go too. Gomes is promising here but out for the season. Lucas, Can, Hendo, Milner and Allen offer depth but there is a lack of creativity in there. None of them are capable of controlling a game either, therefore i think we need a quality CM. Coutinho is easily our best player. Like Moreno, Lallana as looked better since Klopp arrived. Firmino is a good player too, just needs time. We don't really have any wingers. There are only two on our books, Markovic is out on a season loan and ibe looks off the boil. We need someone here. We're still not scoring goals. Shame Ings got injured as he was started to look the part, especially alongside Studge. We can't rely on Danny, he's far too fragile. Although Benteke did well when he came on tonight, he's not ideal. Therefore, as crazy as it soulds because of the number of forwards we've bought in recent years, I think we still need a goalscorer. Centre back, centre midfielder, creative direct winger and a proper striker. That's what I think we need.
We need someone in midfield to replace Gerrard. Not saying it's easy to do, but s big game player than can control games and offer support in attack. We've needed it for the last 3 years but have never got close to strengthening midfield like we've needed to, reminds me of United and not replacing Keane and later on Scholes.
I'm going to regret saying this as it fits in with what Jimmy's been saying but... If Firmino comes good, then maybe Coutinho could do it if he were to drop a little deeper. I'd prefer to keep Coutinho in the AM role though.
The problem then is that Coutinho cannot play in a midfield 2. We need two powerful central midfielders.
I was thinking more of the 433 / 41212 system we've been playing. If we go to a 4231 then Coutinho needs to play CAM or LAM, preferably the former but then its difficult to fit Firmino in.
Yeah just going off Klopps preferred formation over his career which is 4231 which I think he'll adopt once he gets the players in.
So, based on a starting eleven only, the winger I alluded to would be on the right with Firmino central and Coutinho left. Nice.
Migs could definitely be improved upon. Lovren needs to be sold and money spent on a decent CB to partner Sakho. (keep Skrtel as backup... He's not as bad as many make out but shouldn't be first choice). We need a second quality striker for when Studge is injured. I know that's supposed to be Benteke but I'm not really sold on him yet. (not given up... But until he comes good might as well replace Origi with someone competent.) Three signings would go a long way to improve the squad. Decent GK. Good CB. Talented Forward. Other areas could definitely be improved but I think changing those 3 positions would result in big improvement. No need to replace entire squad each summer like Rodger s did... Just 3 quality signings at a time.
Disagree. Good RCB get rid of Skrtel. Top quality midfielder, and I mean top quality. Proven player who can come in and have immediate impact. Talent wide forward, someone in the mould of rues, aubamayang, Walcott, de bruyne. Not saying that good as best in the world are after them but someone that can be a wide forward in a 4231 or a 433 but could do a job centrally if needed.
I'd upgrade more positions than just the three I listed but I feel like one of the major problems under Rodgers was trying to change too much too quickly. Instead of spreading out the transfer kitty on every position that can be improved we need to focus on two or three impact areas. Invest more into fewer areas. Three years of quality purchases would replace almost the entire first team after 3 years. When we throw little bits all over the place trying to improve everything at once like Rodgers did we end up getting 8 New players each season and maybe only 1 or 2 at tops are worth keeping. It will take 5 to 10 years to get a complete first team of quality that way (longer because the rare gem we get will want to leave). That's why we're stuck with players like Origi, Lovren, Lallana and Benteke... We spread the cash around instead of going for quality.
