Cool, the wreck of a 600 year old Warship used by Henry V has been found in the River Hamble in Hampshire. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-34503044
Indeed. Wow. Also, unless I'm getting my shipwrecks mixed up, there's another one on the Hamble that's meant to be highly significant. Was in the news about 4-5 years ago [I think - help from someone else's memory would be appreciated].
I have nowhere to go after ouch in capitals, so I'll just reiterate... I know, have some italics and bold as well. OUCH.!
I must have spent most of my childhood on or around the Hamble. How my brother or I didn't drown in it I'll never know, some of the hairbrained ideas we came up with to raft our way downstream make me wince even now. Quite a short river but really beautiful all along the tidal stretch up to Botley it has good memories for me. Didn't know about it's early historical past, although I did know about the lovely J Class yacht (Valsheda) that was left to rot on it's banks in the 30's and subsequently restored to full use in 1984.
If anyone is thinking abut seeing the Martian I'd think twice. Had a spare pocket of time and saw it today. Mediocre at best. Good cast, not enough depth to characters and all a bit safe and Hollywood ending really. Shame.
My wife flew to Edinburgh for work at the weekend and said she used terminal 5 airport pods to go from parking to the terminal.......I had never even heard of them, so I googled it.
Roads around here are terrible. Recently they've 'repaired' all the cracks by filling them in with shiny black tarmac. That stuff is really slippy.
I used to fish up at Botley. The upper Hamble is beautiful, Oak trees right down to the river. Used to catch the odd Sea Trout!
I love J-Class yachts. We caught and overtook Endeavour once while it was sailing up Southampton Water, in my 15ft Albacore dinghy. We were about 30ft away, planing like crazy and the Endeavour crew, who were all drinking from champagne glasses, turned, cheered and waved. So we got our red wine and plastic stemmed glasses out and toasted them back. To which they put their glasses down, tightened the sheets a tad and roared away. Truly an awesome yacht. Great stuff.
I will post my video when I'm back in UK. Used it last week for first time and it's great. Sold out for this week's trip to Germany though.
If you want bad, come to the Island. They've repaired stretches, but there are still nasty potholes on main roads. What it does to the suspension I dread to think. And they are mad about sleeping policemen just in case you don't get bumped enough.
