If it finished 1-1, (for ROI) - there is a possibility that they might still qualify as the best third placed team overall?

THey would go through if Ukraine lose to Spain tomorrow, and Croatia to lose or draw with Malta.

Unless I have misunderstood the qualifying format!

I think only certain third place teams can automatically qualify. Plus I think they might need a win to achieve this and if they managed that they would automatically qualify:

Because Denmark's group only has five teams in it, all third place teams in the other eight groups have their results against the 6th team in the group discounted. So in Ireland's case, that means ignoring 6 pts vs Gibraltar. The result of which is that I believe they cannot catch Hungary.

Wikipedia currently has Hungary in 1st place with 15 points, but having played all their matches. Ukraine are one point behind, with one game left. Holland are three points behind them, with one game left. (Although of course with Holland, they first need to get above Turkey and into third place. Turkey are six points behind Hungary with one game left, and therefore have no chance of being the best third placed team).

Ireland are only three points behind Hungary, but of course a win here for Ireland would jump them into second (possibly first) in their group any way.

Ah yes, thanks.

Hungary would be through due to their inability to win against Greece!

I would chuckle if Holland still managed to qualify automatically, after their horror campaign. They beat Czech's, Turkey lose to Iceland, Ukraine fail to beat Spain. It could all happen tomorrow/Tuesday.

I presume GD would then come into play between Hungary and Holland. Hungary are +3. Holland I think are +1, with this final match to come.

We certainly make players get recognised for their countries.

there's nothing worse than watching a sporting event as a neutral, most sport can be boring if you're not rooting for one side or the other. My family heritage is Scottish (my surname is Bathgate), I was born in Southampton and lived in England for 18 years, then moved to Wales for 25 years and then Serbia for the last 11. Gives me plenty of teams to support! I always support England first (except in the rugby when I support Wales - being the only Englishman in a valleys pub for 25 years eventually turns your head!). Then if a team has a Southampton player participating I can spread my support even further. I like to keep interested!

Never turned mine! It's made me more English, if anything (due to the anti-Englishness of the clientele). I cared a lot less when I was in England.
