And as for the never been relegated thing... He took Notts County down.

He doesn't make a habit of it though.

It's the right appointment, there are no guarantees in football but with Allardyce we've given ourselves as good a chance of staying up as we could have hoped for.

I'm glad it's two years too, if we don't beat the odds one more time and do get relegated then we'd never get anyone better than Allardyce to navigate the championship.

Has anyone noticed he is our new Manager and not head coach this to me means he has overall say on transfers that could be the best news of all if we get rid of the DOF which has been a disaster at our club
I'm not having a go at the bloke as I think he's done a canny job but I bet Congerton's gone by the morning.

Yeah he's on his way mate. Allardyce has come in as Manager not Head Coach from what I've seen.
Was listening to a North East sports journo on the radio & he reckons Sam will tear the place apart & want total say on how things are run.
That's good news as Ellis has surrounded himself by people who haven't a clue. I think we are in for a lot of changes.

I just see Sam as a short term thing. I don't see him as someone who'll build for the future really.

Fantastic news and the first decent appoinment since Steve Bruce, people don't ask for experience for nothing in jobs and he has loads of premiership experience and is proven to deliver...I bet Defoe doen't get stuck on the left wing under Sam's management. I think he is the perfect appoinment and well done to Ellis for exposing more of the press **** that goes on in this country and the bias against NE clubs from the Southern press especially. Come on you reds and I for one will be backing big Sam 100% as he trys to bring some proper work ethic to some of those lazy bastards in red/white who pretend to be professional footballers!

Great post, especially the last sentence!

That's fair enough, he's just not your cup of tea Di5co, nor Billy's. I just hope he wins you both around.

Personally, I'm very happy. I know it's not going to be pretty watching us this year but I think he'll stop the rot. And we need that. Desperately.

I wouldn't say he's not my cup of tea mate. I think that given time he'll do what needs to be done.
