I would like to hear how Mr Corbyn would have dealt with the east west crisis in the 60's. Basically we had nuclear weapons and so did they, therefore MAD, (mutually assured destruction) so everyone backed off. Had we not have had that option I am speculating that war in between the east and west would have broken out and millions upon millions of people would have died using conventional weapons.
He has declared that he would never ever press that nuclear button, fair do's to him..........but let's suppose he had been in charge and we had not the MAD option, would he have then sanctioned the bombing and killing using conventional weapons or would he have held his hands up, surrendering to the Russian tanks as they thundered over the eastern plains?
It's a tricky one, (how would he have dealt with the rise of Hitler or Stalin for instance) and now we now have the likes of Putin and the extremists in Iran ( who want the nuclear bomb) so let's say he gets into power (joking apart, he is galvanising the masses) and we have no nuclear option, but the extremists have and the talking stops, what would be his next move?

If we were to relinquish nuclear weapons and no-one else did; if anyone threatened or, god-forbid, actually used a nuclear weapon on GB don't you think our allies (UN, G8, Eurozone, NATO) would retaliate? just because we had no comparable response do you really think the whole country would be gone or no one country would take action in our name?
I hate the way Trident is bandied as a "nuclear deterrent". surely "nuclear hypocrisy" would be more apt?

I think he wants us out of NATO as well! It's a touchy subject but if Corbyn is not willing to press the nuclear button, then, in the eyes of our enemy, he blinked first. So would he commit anyone to war, knowing it would be a war of attrition using conventional weapons; seemingly not. So what next? hands up and get on them trains! . I would like to see an end to nuclear weapons, I would like to see a really strong UN and the end of dictators and a fair and just society........it's a long long way off, so until then Negotiate from strength, weakness in this mad bad world gets nothing

Umm, you should have a read about the Cold war, it was a war that most probably did not escalate because both sides had nuclear weapons. The USSR, East Germany and the Eastern European countries up against NATO and our aircraft being scrambled almost daily to fend off Russian 'bear' bombers testing our defences. Russian nuclear submarines also tested our defences in the N. Sea etc etc. It's a bit of an insult to the men and women that defended our shores over that period, to turn round and say we have not been under a direct threat since WW2.

The Russians have started all that shenanigans again and have had nuclear capable aircraft flying along our borders for at least a couple of years now. China is hugely increasing its military force and has been flexing its muscles all across the Pacific. Countries in the Pacific rim have been turning to the USA for support, because of the aggressive nature of the Chinese forces. India are another country that has built up its forces and have both a vast Navy and a nuclear capability. IMHO, we are only a whisker away from something happening, with the only edge being 'if we use a nuclear weapon, they would too and we'd both lose'. There are also some extremely formidable conventional weapons on the planet now, so any escalation of any war will see millions die either way.

NATO stopped the east moving west and then the east put up a wall. There were plenty who died trying to get from east to west, shot by border guards or mauled by killer dogs. I am not aware of anyone trying to scale that wall to go from west to east.
It's a complicated world with dangerous and deluded people in charge; unfortunately Corbyn is already a spent force as he has shown his hand, blinked and basically said he would put his hands up. Good luck to him if he had to 'negotiate' with the likes of Putin, look how that is going in the Ukraine.
