The rugby world cup has shown a lot of sports how things can be done. The professionalism, sportsmanship and respect for the ref in particular.
Groom kids early from foreign nations and send em to public school in England? Use steroids to bulk players up? Aah I'm funning, i like it. Love the Lions tours proper patriotism. Same as this.
Respect for the ref is drilled into at schoolboy level. You never call the ref 'ref', it's always Sir. RL players carry the same respect for referees too. Maybe we should look to the schools in the UK that play football, and the kids leagues to emphasise that they should call him Sir too. Easier said than done, even more so when dad's are stood are side lines shouting abuse at referee. For me those people should be fined.
Respecting the ref is the best bit. If the ref gives a penalty ( football equivalent free kick ) and the players start mobbing the ref and mouthing off he just blows his whistle and moves the ball 10 yards ( or whatever measurement they use these days ) up the pitch. Soon gets the players under control.
Enjoyed hearing the referee informing the captains he and the other officials were in charge so he didn't need any help from them.
I don't doubt that for a second! Although given how corrupt fifa is I don't think we'll find out anytime soon!
He's looking good, just wish they would get the ball in his hand going forward, thats his real strength.
On the topic of the example they set, how many former internationals would act as water carriers/messengers for the next generation as some of the RU players do?
