So the majority of Premier League teams field weakened sides - and then Man Utd play their first team against Ipswich. Another managerial masterstroke for Van Galling! __________________ And they are sill in it, whereas you quite clearly are not.
You might have noticed we fielded a mostly second string team last night - coincidentally, most of your team against the MK Dons started against Man Utd. Afraid of losing?
I'm not ashamed that my club wants to progress in the league cup. You lot make me laugh, its your best chance of achieving something and you sneer at it as you aim for 5th. Luckily for you Poch treats the cups with the same contempt as you fans, so you won't be bothering any quarter finals any time soon, but then 5 or sixth feels so much better, doesn't it?
Is that the cup that we reached the final of last season under the same manager? He messed up this time, in my opinion, but Koeman made quite a few changes, too. Probably around the same number. MK Dons aren't quite up to the same standard of Arsenal though, despite the Goons being far from full strength. You'll notice that virtually all of the comments on here before and after the game criticised our lineup, so I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion that our fans are sneering at anything.
I think he takes it seriously, we got to,the final last year. It was obviously a huge selection mistake to put in Fazio who was absolutely dire. I didn't see the game as I was out all evening, but we were apparently unlucky to lose. Bad mistake by Vorm for the first goal, and a complete ****up by Fazio for he second.
By all means, please tell me how the League Cup is our best chance of winning anything. First of all, how is the standard of opposition in the League Cup any different to the FA Cup? It isn't. In fact, on paper, the standard of opposition is higher because non-league teams made up of part time players aren't in the draw for the League Cup, but they are for the FA Cup. Based on that sound reasoning, the FA Cup is an easier competition to win Secondly, to win both tournaments would require us winning the exact same number of games: six. So how is it more feasible to win six League Cup games and not six FA Cup games, given the opposition is more or less the same? Third, teams are just as likely to field weakened teams in the FA Cup as they are in the League Cup. Case in point, a couple of seasons back saw Chelsea field a much-changed side against Stoke and City field a much-changed side against Wigan, both of which were Premier League teams at the time. So how is this different from them fielding weakened teams in the League Cup? Add to this a simple question: if those teams get knocked out after fielding weakened teams, as happened when Wigan knocked out City, how exactly do we have less chance of winning the FA Cup? But it's not about our chances of winning X tournament over Y, is it? No, you just want to whinge about Poch because he left you for big bad Tottenham - and, like so many other Southampton fans, you lack the basic intelligence to see that it's Liverpool and Man Utd that have been dismantling your team for the past couple of years.
Who said that we were doing that? We've also got that European competition that you rested players for. I'm guessing that's different altogether though, for some unknown reason.
"We've also got that European competition that you rested players for. I'm guessing that's different altogether though, for some unknown reason." Not different, just very strange. Very strange in that a club that weren't good enough in their domestic league to qualify for the competition outright, when offered a second bite of the cherry during pre/early season, did not put the right dentures into their mouth. Or I'm guessing that Koeman has done his homework on previous PL seasons, and realised that his squad is too weak to avoid suffering the next season PL fate that the Europa has inflicted upon (among others) the Toon and Everton. But good on Soton for avoiding the above by not selling their best players en-masse.
Sometimes i think it's justified and should be allowed. I'm perfectly happy for you to be the judge of that, you arse Btw, wasn't me this time
Janmaat elbows Hazard in the nuts by accident. "He's caught him in the midriff... or something like that." - Alan Smith
1-0 Newcastle, Perez. They've deserved that. Chelsea have been poor, the Geordies are really working hard and Mourinho's back in the ****. Massive for McClaren and it's just before half-time. That could be a good thing or a really bad thing.
