Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers have taken Reading's former goalkeeper Jon Henly on trial.
Henly, who has caps for Scotland Under-21s, was let go by Reading after failing to make a first-team appearance in Berkshire having had loan spells at Aldershot and, during the last campaign, Welling United. He was recently turned down by Scottish club Ross County after a short trial.
The R's have just last week sold second-choice goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, another former Royal, and are currently without a back-up to former England shot-stopper Robert Green. Henly played for QPR's development squad in a friendly defeat to Hendon on Monday, officially listed by the West London outfit as a trialist, in a bid to earn a contract at Loftus Road. The 21-year-old got 90 minutes in that game, which was organised as a testimonial for the non-league side's boss Gary McCann.
Whether Henly can force his way into the QPR first-team squad - let alone a contract - remains to be seen. Not many Reading fans would have had this one down as a case of 'the one that got away' but if Chris Ramsey's side can see any potential in the youngster then that may change.

I see Julian Speroni was injured today so McCarthy may get a few games and a chance to make his mark for Palace...
I don't think I would classify that one a "howler", as apart from Son's goal, where the ball slipped between his legs, McCarthy's actually had quite a good game. Hangeland, who also has also played well, really should have got a block in on Son before he got his shot away.
McCarthy smashed a backpass straight at Kane which went narrowly wide. If Green had done it people would have a field day on here.
It's noticeable his confidence isn't as high as last season, he hesitated on one chance today that he was burying last season and the new Korean is making an impact for them which may affect his confidence as well. I think he's quality but at the top level you have to maintain your form or you're on the bench...
Agreed howler was definitely the wrong word having seen the goal again, he hasn't had a good game though. Seen a fair few palace fans wanting him dropped already. Always got a mistake in him (one per game at the minute), and you can't have that at the top level.
A bit like Green then.
I thought it was poor management to put Green straight back in yesterday. Smithies may (may) have been at fault for Blackburn's first goal, but Green's ****-up against Forest was unforgivable. Smithies' confidence will have been dealt a further blow.
How did Green play then? Haven't seen the game. Surely the most important criteria for the choice is who is in the best form, From the few games I seen Green had not been in form, but Smithies weren't quite that bad, so I'd have liked him to have got another chance.
I think it's obvious Green is No.1, unlikely to be dropped unless he has a couple of stinkers...
For the record your aware I'm talking about Mccarthy and not smithies?
Completely agree regarding the Smithies situation, should have started Saturday.
