If we are good enough we'll win. Regardless of who the referee is, I seem to be one of the few that doesn't buy this blaming the ref for things. I see other teams in the premier league bemoaning the referees. Referees will make mistakes, it's the same for everybody. Get on with it.
Yeah, this. I don't believe there's a single referee in the premier league that has anything against Sunderland. Some are just ****.
I think Friend and Marriner Deffo have something against us. Having said that we normally do OK with Dowd.
Any ref is a let down to be fair. You just have to hope they're not having a period on the day, power hungry ****ing weasels. Clattenberg is the only one I have any respect for.
Clattenburg (mag who lives in Seaham) and Oliver best two in league. We can't have either. Yet we can have Jon Moss who is a Sunderland supporter but is registered at Oxford FA who can referee our games
I hate it mate. To be good enough to win you sometimes need to beat the opposition and the ref. Obviously its it's kick in the nads but decisions won't always go your way. Agreed there are some proper whingers on here. The reality is this sort of **** evens itself out over time. A beach ball scored for us for ****s sake.
I sat next to Howard Webb a couple of years ago at a Xmas dinner and talked , funnily enough, about football all night. Inevitably the standard and also integrity of refereeing came to the fore, He maintains that his biggest nightmare is decisions he got wrong, and his biggest mistake which he still blushes at was THAT penalty he gave to Everton at the SoL. I don't believe there is a natural bias of a ref to give one team the advantage over another. They are human and make mistakes, whilst some are worse than others and make more mistakes. We need to get on with it and win without help or hinderance, but accept that sometimes refs will make poor decisions against us
I don`t think referees make any more mistakes now than they did in the past. I think the technology nowadays is showing them up for the useless knackers they`ve always been,
Surprised it wasn't missing De Jong karate kicking Alonso in the final of the world cup and getting away with it without a booking.
That's it, it's a natural tendency among football fans to feel that you're the most hard done by when it's not actually true. You can see it at the matches; when one of our players does a bad tackle and gets away with it there's a few coughs and it never gets mentioned again. If the opposition does it then the whole stadium is shouting at the ref. The one incident of the two that sticks in the mind is the one where you got screwed over.
Totally agree mate. Anyone who's stood in a 50,000 - 60,000 version of the Roker roar and heard them in full boo-ing mode will never doubt that it's always been that way. It always was that way - as you say, there just wasn't t.v. around then.
I am of the opinion the decisions balance each other out AND referee's are human. Doesn't stop me giving them dogs abuse though
Abuse them... Yes. Don't become one of those "We'd have won if it wasn't for the refs, "refs hate us", "I'm Jose mourinho" type of people.
