I am very much in the minority but happy to see Roy continue. I know he is not the best we have had but he is far from the worst. Barring a complete flop at the Euro finals I am not fussed about anyone else coming in.

But he's not a world class manager.
That's like calling Sven a world class manager because we beat Germany 5-1 and he did well at Lazio.
Did he not see the most exciting and talented player we had in 1996 in England?
Did he not set him up to fail in a spiteful way.
Did he not have favourites that he'd pick come hell or high water.
Did he not show himself to be desperately average at Australia, Middlesborough, Palace (second time round) and Leeds.
Did he not cause financial difficulties for clubs in a Redknapp style.
Did he not struggle to get work after England?
World class? Nowhere near. He's just an English Sven.
Did he not win Barcelona their first La Liga title in over a decade?
Did he not win honours at every club he was at?
Did he not have the best win record of any England manager ever over his 23 games in charge?
Err no, he didn't win honours at every club he was at and nearly bankrupted Pompey as chairman (though I suppose that's an honour mind you). His Spurs team that you so loved hovered around mid table for most of his tenure. Sven won lots at Benfica and Lazio too (far more than Venables) So, the English Sven, as I say, and that's actually being a bit mean to Sven...
So, as I said, do you consider Sven as a world class manager?
Each responsible for a handful of pretty inspiring England performances though. As England manager, you can maybe assess Sven as having ultimately failed, if you feeling uncharitable. You can't really say that about Venables, as his England tenure ended prematurely due to reasons that had nothing to do with football. You'd have to be pretty unforgiving not to give him credit as England manager; and you'd have to erase all memory of that magnificent performance against the Dutch.
I thought he was okay as England manager with a decent England team. He's another Redknapp style manager for me. His biggest failing as England manager was his complete failure to recognise or use the most talented England player in many years because of his obsession with fielding his little favourites. That's a major failing for me.
It's ok though because now we have a manager who not only fails to recognise talent by persisting with Milner, Henderson, Carroll etc. but also someone who relies on ex players to tell them who they should pick (the bottom part regarding Gerrard):

It does not matter who gets the England job really they will just be making up the numbers in all competitions just like all the other home nations.None will ever emulate the Germans,Spanish and Italians or most of the rest, A lot of those countries players have flooded the British leagues stopping our talent from properly coming through to their full potential. We have players in the England side and the other home nations who are a few world class but the majority would not even be considered by the top European countries and even our best would not get a look in with South American sides......that's the reality and has been for 50 years plus.
Yep, hard for any Saints fan to forgive the way Matty was overlooked. Venables wasn't alone in that though, was he?
