It wasn't just rival fans saying we were wasting the Suarez money. I recall saying myself that we're buying too many mediocre players instead of a few good ones.

I certainly wasn't the only one. I know others said similar things at the time.

That doesn't alter the gist of my post. We went after some top class players and failed to get them. The automatic assumption is that our transfer committee is inept. I'm saying the reality is that top players want top clubs, and like it or not, we aren't- at the moment- a top club.

we went after one for sure....

my point which is consistently ignored is we bought two players in Markovic and baloetlli which when the fee and wages are added would have fetched many a player that would have radically improved our lot.

Whether or not sanchez turned us down i refuse to accept e'tto and baloetlli were the only options in the entire european football system.

But you could say, well the fee for last summer and this summer when add the wages could have signed Messi... Maybe we couldn't attract the big name players even if we did have the money for them

    when did i mention messi????

    when?

36 million plus 50k + 90k in wages (140K) and theres not one forward across europe the club could not have turned to and said come on then lets try this guy... thats all i am saying. How more clear can i be.

And what I'm saying is it's not necessarily about money.

Yes if if you use the money from 2 transfers for 1 big signings, you might not be able to attract that player even if you have enough money to buy them and pay them. Messi was just an example ffs

You were talking about signing a top player.. Top players tend to be the big names?

    We could do this forever.
The fact is we have no idea who the club might have wanted unless it's revealed to us, and anyway, picking individuals to prove a point doesn't alter the basic principle.
It seems some fans will only be satisfied if we go for, and get, top class players, but I see very little chance of us getting an established one- no matter how much we pay. Whatever we offer can be bettered by a club in a better position to offer them success and trophies, so just why would they pick us?
This is so glaringly ****ing obvious I don't understand why we even debate it.

Seriously, we did this all through last year.

It's old news now and we're in a new chapter - things look ok at the moment, dragging up 'we wasted the Suarez money' is just pointless now.

Would say Lazar is going there because they're paying his wages. Club maybe thinking about his development and FFP? Who knows. It's disappointing... he's clearly talented. No faith he'll be reintegrated.

Lets face it... he should be ahead of Ibe.

Then why the no option to buy and the explicit comments it's intended for development and he will return?

again the point is it was a failure and it was a failure that haunted us all season and as i said by paying for the sins of the past last year we had to flog off aspas and then ended up with balotelli and now we've had to buy benteke to fix that so its 3 years on and we are hoping its fixed... can someone PLEASE explain where i have said only a top class player? Please... i have said time and again anyone would do better.

It seems to me people only want to hear what they want to hear here... lets all move on cover our ears and go lal ala la everything is now fine.

Not at all, but just whinging on and on aint gonna help either is it?

Might as well go back to the club being sold to G&H or Kenny and Comoli's disastrous spending - it's done and we're trying to move on and have had a good start to the season.

I did not say top player I said theres 36mil and 140k wages there must be someone in the whole of european football to go for,

If we'd spent the same 16mil we did on balotelli on god knows who and they scored 20 goals I'd be saying bargain not who was he where's the big name.

Again why are you guys putting words in my mouth constantly.
