Why have air shows over built up areas/major roads

It's a recipe for disaster

They should have to fly over the sea, and doing flips and what not in a ****ty ancient jet

Airshows are trying to push it to the limit in machines that should be in a museum

Seems like the death toll has risen to 11. The pilot is still alive. How the hell can anyone survive that? Hope he pulls through. Thoughts to all those affected by this.

I think I read that the pilot had bailed out. Just guessing, but it sounds like he fought it as long as he could and jumped as late as he could, poor sod. They might mend his bones, but the mind'll take more than an elastoplast.

True enough poor bugger .... He will have more answers as to what happened than anyone else. Listening to one of his friends who is also a pilot he said although the plane was old. it is very young as in flight hours. We might never find out what happened.

I've been involved with many boards of inquiry over the years and can't remember a single one where the pilot hasn't done everything to stop others dying normally at the cost of their own lives.

New or old, sadly any aircraft can have a catastrophic failure.

RIP to those who lost their lives

2nd major accident at Shoreham air show since I moved there. I wasn't there to witness this one, as I was suffering a very different kind of trauma at Charlton at the time. Very puzzling that the plane crashed into the A27, which is a dual carriageway which runs parallel to the South Downs. Mostly the low level stunts take place over the airfield itself and planes then pull up and over the Downs or turn over the sea. The last fatal accident was due to a plane crashing into the hills of the Downs which seems a lot more explicable given the set up of the event...to say that air shows shouldn't take place over built up areas isn't quite fair in this particular instance. Unfortunately, this simply seems to have been a 1000-1 chance tragic accident

it is though

when you're performing low level plane stunts, there's always a risk in these ****ty planes.. they aren't designed for it

you should be atleast 10,000 feet up OR do it over the sea, so if it crashes only 1 person dies.. or 0 if the pilot bails, especially in a place like shoreham, not bloody far from the sea at all

it's not the pilots fault, but it's inexcusable.. it should not be allowed, they have to fly low to be able to be witnessed by the crowd.. and when a plane does go down.. all that jet fuel.. kaboom

i think it's inexcusable to have it over such a populated area.. in switzerland there was a crash today in an airshow.. almost landed in a school

people driving on the motorway with absolutely nothing to do with the airshow.. it's horrific and disgusting.. move them away from the land..

Seagulls keeper Stockdale makes personal visit to the Grimstone family

Albion keeper David Stockdale has made a personal and spontaneous visit to the family of Matthew Grimstone, who was tragically killed in the Shoreham airshow disaster last weekend.

Matthew Grimstone was himself a goal-keeper for Worthing United and was traveling to play for them at the time of the accident.

He was also a member of Albion’s ground staff.

A club spokesman revealed today that the Albion keeper took it upon himself to go visit and spend time with the family.
