James Anderson could have played his final Ashes Test after being ruled out of the last installment of this campaign at the Kia Oval due to the side strain he sustained at Edgbaston.
Anderson had hoped to recover in time to return to the side, but Alastair Cook said that he had only been able to bowl at "60-70%" during England's training sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Cook also confirmed that barring any late injury problems England will name an unchanged team which means they will resist any temptation to give Adil Rashid a debut.
Although Anderson has said that he has ambitions to extend his England career for considerable time to come, at the age of 33 nothing is certain for a fast bowler. The next Ashes series is in Australia during the 2017-18 season.

Can England bat long enough to be saved by the rain?

I had a dream that Buttler and Moeen Ali got big hundreds and England got 250 in front before bowling Aus out for 89.

    4-1 series win.

England batsman Ian Bell says he still has the "hunger and desire" to play Test cricket after retiring from one-day internationals.
Bell, 33, hinted he could quit Tests after winning the Ashes, but has since had "a really good talk" with the coaches and captain Alastair Cook

England will rest wicketkeeper Jos Buttler for the last three games of their five-match one-day series against Australia.
They have called up fellow keeper Jonny Bairstow, 25, as his replacement.

Pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile has become the latest Australia player to be ruled out of the rest of the one-day international series against England.
Opener David Warner broke a thumb during Saturday's second ODI and was replaced by Yorkshire's Aaron Finch. Injuries to all-rounder Shane Watson (calf) and Coulter-Nile (hamstring) in that game have forced the tourists to raid county cricket again.
John Hastings and Peter Handscomb join the squad for Tuesday's third ODI.
